As part of a continuing effort to reduce its environmental impact and promote sustainable logistics, FedEx Express has added electric vehicles (EV) to its fleet in Malaysia. FedEx Express is a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation, one of the world’s largest express transportation companies.

For starters, FedEx will deploy 2 EVs in the Klang Valley for parcel pick-up and delivery operations. The EVs will help contribute to a reduced carbon footprint as well as reduced emissions in urban areas. FedEx will continue to expand its EV fleet and help advance emissions reduction goals in Malaysia. “FedEx has been actively promoting the use of EVs as part of its sustainability goal, including the electrification of its fleet. We recognise the benefits of EVs in reducing CO2 emissions and are taking concrete steps to integrate them into our operations,” said Tien-Long Woon, Managing Director of FedEx Express Malaysia and Thailand. “Our actions support the Malaysian government’s strong commitment to promote EVs to mitigate the effects of climate change and achieve net zero nationally by 2050. With our 30 years of operations in Malaysia, this is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our leadership in the business community and that it is possible and imminent for companies to operate sustainably while delivering high-quality products and services to customers”.

Throughout the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions, FedEx has already deployed electric vehicles in a number of countries. In Asia, its largest EV fleet is in China. FedEx has also tested EVs in India, Thailand, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates to help advance emissions reduction goals.

FedEx has committed itself to reducing its environmental impact and working towards a goal of carbon neutral operations through various initiatives. The company recognises that vehicle electrification is a key area in this effort and has set the goal of operating an all-electric global pick-up and delivery (PUD) fleet by 2040. To achieve this, FedEx Express intends for EVs to make up 50% of all new PUD vehicles purchased by 2025, and 100% by 2030.

In addition to vehicle electrification, FedEx has a tailored approach to efficient and responsible resource management that focuses on reducing, replacing, and revolutionising both in its air and ground operations. Specific initiatives include the fuel savings initiatives, investment in renewable energy, and implementation of sustainable packaging solutions.

As FedEx celebrates its 50th birthday this year, this initiative is part of how it is helping to create a better world with its team members united behind a desire to deliver the best results for its customers, the communities, and the planet for a sustainable world.
