- Everything you need to know about the Audi RS5
The RS5 is one of those timeless and elegant sports coupes from Audi. Thinking about parking one in your garage? Find out what you need about the coupé and Sportback models, here.
What is the Audi RS5 like to drive?
Is the Audi RS5 a good car?
The RS5 is excellent in every respect. Older models can be expensive to fix, however.
Who is the Audi RS5 a good car for?
Anyone who values style, power, and comfort. It’s ideal for well-heeled urbanites who have access to good driving roads. Potholes are to be avoided at all costs, however.
Is the Audi RS5 a good first car?
Yes and no. It’s too powerful for new drivers but the safety systems on board make it ideal, actually. Fuel costs will be high and maintenance costs won’t be cheap either. But, if you are a responsible person and you have the means to pay for the RS5’s upkeep, why not? If you do decide to buy an RS5, we highly recommend that you go for an advanced driving course.
If you’re new to the driving thing a more ‘every day’, used A5 will do nicely, so read our Audi A5 Coupé 2.0T FSI quattro review, titled Hot German supermodel, slightly aloof and The fun German.
Is the Audi RS5 a good family car?
Sports cars and coupes are hardly ideal for families, but if you must have one, and you can live with the inconvenience of only two doors, your younger passengers will certainly be safe. The RS5 has Isofix seats but fitting baby seats into a low-slung car is always a mission.
We’d recommend opting for the Audi RS5 Sportback quattro (R1 567 700 on 17 December 2022) instead, if you plan on bringing more than one family member along.
The RS5 forms part of the larger Audi A4/A5 line-up which was crash tested by the Euro NCAP new car assessment programme in 2015. The A4/A5 achieved the maximum 5-Star rating including 89% for adult occupant safety, 87% for child occupant safety, 75% for pedestrian safety and 75% for its safety assistance systems. The RS5 tested came with a host of standard and optional safety kit, including 6 airbags, lane departure and lane keep assist, blind-spot monitor, adaptive cruise control as well as both outer rear and front passenger seat ISOFIX child seat anchor points. – Sean Nurse, AutoTrader
A Sportback model has more doors for easy entry and exit of rear passengers.
Is there a hybrid RS5 model?
No. The latest RS5 is powered by a 2.9-litre, turbocharged V6 engine with 331 kW and 600 Nm.

Audi has updated things inside too, with a new 10.1-inch MMI navigation system that now features touch functionality. The new system is a big improvement, offering improved resolution, better performance, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as well as a host of Audi Connect services too.
The brand’s popular virtual cockpit has been updated too, with the 12.3-inch digitised instrument cluster now offering an RS-specific mode while also providing the usual navigation, media, speed, engine revolutions, trip metre and fuel status, all of which is configurable by the user. – Sean Nurse, AutoTrader
