Owners will Ford receive recall notification letters starting June 12.
Ford Motor Company is recalling over 120,000 of its hybrid models due to a faulty engine that could lead to fire. The safety recall report reveals that the affected hybrid models include the Escape Hybrid and Maverick, as well as Lincoln's compact crossover, the Corsair Hybrid.
Number-wise, Ford reported 86,656 units of 2020-2022 MY Escape, 35,501 units of 2022-2023 MY Maverick, and 3,165 units of 2021-2023 MY Corsair are part of the recall. The issue is stemmed from the use of the brand's 2.5-liter Duratec iVCT Atkinson cycle HEV/PHEV engine. It has a defective block or oil pan that when breached, oil and/or fuel vapor to reach ignition sources, which could result in a fire.

Of note, the Ford Maverick is the only one on the list not available with a plug-in hybrid setup, and the company isn't planning on offering it anytime soon.
It was in June 2022 when Ford approved field action to address the risk of an underhood fire on the said models. Later in the year, the Blue Oval company received three reports of underhood fires globally, which, already reportedly received a recall remedy. After determining that a block or oil pan breach causes the underhood fires, a field action has been approved on May 19, 2023.

Among the warnings that the issue is occurring include loud noises, reduction in engine torque, and smoke. Ford advises owners to safely park and shut off the engine when experiencing one of the said warnings.
Ford will start sending notification letters to owners starting June 12 and is expected to be completed by June 16. Owners can expect the remedy to be available in the third quarter of the year.
The Lincoln Corsair's predecessor, the MKC, is also under recall due to a faulty battery monitoring sensor that could catch fire. Affected owners will receive a notification letter starting June 26, 2023.
