Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, noted in a post on Saturday that the social media company is planning to launch a dedicated video app for Smart TVs. The move appears to be in line with Twitter’s intentions to grow video content on its platform.
Since taking over the social media site last year, Elon Musk has frequently encouraged programs to post their content on Twitter. Some have, such as the Real Talk with Zuby Podcast, which recently posted an interview with the Twitter owner. Within discussions from the podcast episode, some users asked Musk for possible new features. In response to a tweet suggesting that a dedicated Twitter video app for Smart TVs is needed, Musk replied, “It’s coming.”

In a recent investor presentation that was reviewed by Reuters, Elon Musk and new Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino revealed that the company is looking to focus on video, creator, and commerce partnerships to revitalize the company’s business beyond simple advertising. Yaccarino reportedly stated that Twitter is already in early conversations with political and entertainment figures, news and media publishers, and payments services, as per an individual reportedly familiar with the matter.
One slide of Musk and the new Twitter CEO’s presentation reportedly highlighted that vertical video accounted for more than 10% of time spent on Twitter as well. This suggests that there is potential in turning Twitter into a video content platform, and one that could be accessed through devices such as Smart TVs. Such a feature would be useful once Twitter content starts becoming longer.

Twitter’s content business is showing some signs of momentum.
