The end of the line for Dodge's twin flagships is nigh. Dodge plans to celebrate in style.
The Dodge Charger and Challenger as we know them are not long for this world. Electric muscle and a new high output inline 6 may be on the way, but whatever comes next for Dodge’s two marquee nameplates will look nothing like the current V-8 beasts. That makes 2023 the final model year of the muscle cars that defines what Dodge keeps calling its “Brotherhood of Muscle,” so it’s time to celebrate with commemorative editions. Dodge has announced that its “Last Call” for the Charger and Challenger will take the form of seven unique new special edition models, plus a few additional goodies spread out among the rest of the lineup. The headliners are the new special editions, set to be unveiled later this year. Six of these special editions, each with reveal dates not yet announced, represent a connection to “an iconic Dodge model from the past.” A seventh and final car will bow at SEMA in November; that one is being billed as “the last of its kind.” For now, these Chargers and Challengers are being displayed under car covers that hint at the identities of the models underneath.
Those not getting a special edition Charger or Challenger will still get a “Last Call” branded plaque under their hood, plus the option to choose among returning heritage colors Plum Crazy purple, Sublime green, and B5 Blue. Jailbreak, the designation that allows buyers to option a much wider variety of color combinations, is now available for the standard Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats. It initially debuted on the Redeye Widebody variants.
Finally, order allocations have been revamped for the 2023 model year. In what Dodge is calling a “customer-focused vehicle allocation process,” the entire final model year run of the current Charger and Challenger will be made available to dealers all at once. The company’s DodgeGarage.com site will guide customers toward remaining stock at various dealers, an effort Dodge hopes will allow enthusiasts to more easily locate cars and cut into a dealer’s ability to mark up and leverage the enthusiast car market against buyers.
