A 2016 Audi R8 supercar formerly owned by Sydney conwoman Melissa Caddick – who disappeared two years ago under mysterious circumstances – has sold at auction for $295,000.
Ms Caddick is believed to have fleeced at least $24 million from approximately 70 friends and family members between 2012 and 2019, under the pretence she was investing their savings in the stock market – instead, the unlicensed ‘financial advisor’ was buying luxury clothes, jewellery, family ski holidays, and prestige German cars.
In 2020 the Federal Police and Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) raided her Dover Heights mansion in Sydney investigating allegations of fraud, and she disappeared in the early hours of the following morning. Her detached left foot was found 13 weeks later inside a shoe on Bournda Beach, six hours south of where she was last seen.
The German-built supercar which sold today had been registered to Ms Caddick’s private company Maliver Pty Ltd, however was primarily driven by her second husband – recording artist, former hairdresser, and amateur rollerblader Anthony ‘2 Paws’ Koletti (shown below). There is no indication Mr Koletti was involved with or knew about his wife’s crimes in any way.
Following her disappearance and presumed death, the asset was placed under the control of liquidators tasked with recovering some of the stolen funds on behalf of victims.
Likely costing at least $400,000 off the showroom floor when new, the six-year old supercar was listed for sale by authorities via Pickles Auctions on 4 February 2022. A one-and-a-half hour bidding war ensued tonight between 6:00PM and 7:30PM before the hammer fell on the $295,000 offer.
With 23,942km on the clock, the condition report suggests the high-performance coupe is in ‘moderate’ to ‘good’ condition. Minor underside scrapes and paint chips appear to be the only blemishes, alongside its checkered history and former-status as a proceed of crime.
A 5.2-litre V10 engine behind the driver, and sends 396kW/540Nm to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
This – along with wide sticky tyres and a relatively low dry weight 1454kg – allows the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 3.1 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 330km/h.
According to NewsCorp mastheads Mr Koletti has been devastated by the removal and listing of ‘his’ vehicle, and told friends last week he was “ashamed” to drive a hire car.
A 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG also owned by Ms Caddick – and believed to be her personal daily vehicle – was sold alongside the Audi, and fetched $66,250.
The combined figure of $361,250 will be divided between her known victims by liquidators. Two homes also connected to Ms Caddick are expected to be sold in the coming months.
