The 2022 Ford F-150 is the best-selling pickup truck year after year, and with good reason. It’s well-built, it’s stylish, and it screams ruggedness in the way pickup truck shoppers are often looking for. Because it’s such a favorite among Ford fans – and truck fans in general – it makes sense that Ford would be reluctant to make any drastic changes. Sitll, that’s one of the downsides of the 2022 Ford F-150, as Consumer Reports points out, saying it “didn’t make a significant step forward.”

The 2022 Ford F-150 was updated – but maybe not enough
Consumer Reports notes that the 2021 Ford F-150 was redesigned, and so the 2022 Ford F-150 is in the second year of its updated version. It added “a mildly updated exterior, an upgraded cabin, the first-ever hybrid model, and more tech and innovative work-related features.”
Even with all that, the 2022 Ford F-150 “didn’t make a significant step forward overall, with only incremental improvements in ride comfort and handling agility.” Its ratings reflect this lukewarm feeling toward the 2022 Ford F-150’s comfort. While its noise and rear seat comfort get 5/5, the driving position and front access only score a 3/5.
The same goes for rear access as well as interior fit and finish. However, the usability score is a 4/5. It’s worth noting that the trunk and cargo area, as well as the climate system both, score a 5/5.
The F-150 is the #2 pickup truck
The 2022 Ford F-150 is ranked second on Consumer Reports’ list of full-sized pickup trucks, behind the 2022 Ram 1500. It has a better-than-average score of 60/100, and a road test score of 75/100. Consumer Reports notes, “The F-150’s ride is slightly less jittery than before, though still a far cry from the plush comfort the Ram 1500 delivers, and it trails the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 twins, too. The steering remains slow and the handling fairly clumsy, but both F-150s proved very secure when pushed to their limits around our test track.”
Is the Ford F-150 reliable?
The 2022 Ford F-150 has below-average reliability, at just a 2/5. So is the 2021 Ford F-150. The 2020 Ford F-150’s reliability is better, at a 4/5, and the 2019 Ford F-150 is a 3/5. The 2017 and 2018 Ford F-150 both get just a 1/5 for reliability. It may be best to look at some of the more reliable models, like the 2020 Ford F-150.
Still, the predicted owner satisfaction score for the 2022 Ford F-150 is a 4/5. While Consumer Reports may not think that the F-150 has made huge advancements in comfort, current owners of the popular Ford truck are pretty happy with it, giving comfort an 89/100. They also like the driving experience, at 85/100, and the styling, also at an 85/100. Value, on the other hand, just gets a 40/100.
The 2022 Ford F-150 is the best-selling pickup truck that is #1 for a good reason. And while it remains largely unchanged, that just might be what people love about the newest edition of the 2022 Ford F-150.
