Subaru has a reputation for reliability and capable vehicles. That’s probably why Consumer Reports listed three different Subaru models on its “10 Best SUVs” list. What made the Subaru Forester, Crosstrek, and Outback the best SUVs of 2022?
Consumer Reports picked the Subaru Forester as one of the best SUVs of 2022

Consumer Reports really liked the 2022 Subaru Forester when it comes down to it. In fact, the 2022 Forester came in first on the list of 23 similar compact SUVs. The SUV managed to get a 90 out of 100 overall, with the same score on a road test. Both the predicted owner satisfaction and predicted reliability score came in at four out of five.
The Forester SUV has plenty of space, roomy seats, and enough room in the back for whatever items you want to take along. Plus, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are compatible. Forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), and automatic emergency braking (AEB) are included. Blind-spot warning (BSW) is available but not included.
Price Range: $25,395 – $35,495
The Subaru Crosstrek is also one of the best SUVs of 2022

While the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is considered a subcompact SUV, it still came in first. With an overall score of 86 out of 100 and a similar score on the road test, the Crosstrek impressed the experts. The predicted reliability score was five out of five, which is a good sign for the longevity of this vehicle. Plus, the predicted owner satisfaction score came in at four out of five.
“The Crosstrek is an appealing option for buyers who want a small, versatile SUV,” Consumer Reports noted. The Subaru sport utility vehicle managed 29 mpg overall when tested, and the hybrid version returned 33 mpg overall. Consumer Reports noted the hybrid price does hurt the overall value of the hybrid option, though. FCW and AEB are standard on the automatic transmission version but don’t come on the manual one, which seems odd. BSW is optional, as is LDW.
Price Range: $22,645 – $35,845
Consumer Reports liked the Subaru Outback sport utility vehicle
Topping the midsize SUV list, the 2022 Subaru Outback had pretty high scores. Consumer Reports gave the Outback an 85 out of 100 overall. The Subaru SUV also scored well on the road test and the predicted owner satisfaction area. The predicted reliability only came in average. But the Outback comes with all-wheel drive standard and more agile handling than some competition.
Consumer Reports said the visibility and ride are high points, plus its off-road capability is another plus. FCW, LDW, and AEB are included but BSW is only optional.
Price Range: $27,145 – $40,145
People are interested in SUVs because of the versatility offered. Some people need a fuel-efficient SUV for the work commute that can go off-roading on the weekend and carry tons of supplies. Others just want a lot of safety features and the newest technology. It seems Subaru SUVs can offer all of that in one convenient package in the Forester, Crosstrek, and Outback.
