According to Torque News, Consumer Reports gave the 2023 Subaru Forester a much higher score than other options in the lineup. It scored 90 out of 100, making it the highest-ranked option.
It got a higher score than the Hyundai Tucson, with a total of 89 points, and the Honda CR-V comes in with 84 points. Both the Ford Bronco Sport and Mazda CX-5 got 82 points. These scores are for 2022, but the Froster is a carry-over model, so its score should be the same.
The Subaru Crosstrek is the top compact option, with a score of 86. It’s also a carry-over model. The 2022 Subaru Outback earned a score of 85, but that’s subject to change. The 2023 model has fresh updates for Consumer Reports to review.
What’s so great about the 2023 Forester?
Consumer Reports gave the 2023 Subaru Forester an incredibly high score because it performs better than all of the other options in the class. It defeated 25 other SUV models with the most points.
The Forester is praised for having a spacious interior, excellent fuel economy, great visibility, and intuitive controls.
It earned 90 out of 100 points during its road test, got a four out of five for its predicted reliability ranking, and received a four out of five for predicted owner satisfaction. Only one feature hurt its score, which is a loud amount of engine noise.
That standard Forester engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit that churns out 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 9.3 seconds, which is far from sporty.
The Forester gets an EPA-estimated 26 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway. Also, all-wheel drive comes standard.
You can tow up to 1,500 lbs with regular models, but the Subaru Forester Wildnerness edition can tow up to 3,500 lbs. It also has a 9.3-inch ground clearance.
The Forester provides a pretty smooth ride over most surfaces, but its tall profile contributes to noticeable wind noise. Also, the seats are well-padded and supportive to keep you comfortable during long drives.
Does the 2023 Forester have nice features?

The 2023 Subaru Forester didn’t gain any tech updates for the model year. Also, it got a $550 price increase and starts at $27,650.
The Forester features a durable yet upscale interior with textured plastics and with pops of chrome metallic and matte-metallic trim pieces. Leather upholstery and soft-touch-covered items are available with higher trim levels.
You can upgrade from the standard 6.5-inch infotainment display to an 8.0-inch unit. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Plus, a panoramic sunroof and power liftgate are available.
Perhaps another SUV with more modern updates will replace the 2023 Subaru Forester as the top option. But for now, it’s Consumer Report’s highest-ranking choice.
