The creators of YouTube channel WD Woodworking Art couldn't afford the £50 million needed to buy a real Ferrari 250 GTO so the Vietnamese craftsman did the best thing, carved one for himself from scratch.
Posting a video of their efforts to create a 250 GTO, despite not having to build a life-size scale model, the mammoth project to recreate a Ferrari out of timber still took more than 70 days.
The project began by welding a basic steel tubular chassis that packaged independent suspension, disc brakes and a small electric motor, then large sections of wooden blocks were bolted on to the frame.
Once glued and fixed in place, it was time to get busy with a chainsaw to begin to refine the shape to give the small ride-on toy car the impression of the Ferrari 250 GTO's sensuous curves.
We'll let you be the judge on how successful the resulting model is, but in the flesh the wooden take on the prancing horse's famous racer is entertaining to say the least, especially since it can actually be driven thanks to its little electric motor, working headlamps, indicators and real seats, steering wheel and a dashboard, naturally made from wood.
It's not the first time WD Woodworking Art has created a ride-on wooden car. In the past the same talented carpenter has crafted a LaFerrari Aperta, a Bugatti Centodieci, replicated the BMW 328 Hommage concept and even tackled a Lamborghini Sian Roadster.
Although none of them truly recapture the beauty of the cars they ape, nor come close to being worth anywhere near the real thing, all of them will be near priceless to their new owner. All of WD Woodworking Art's creations have been given to the woodcarver's young son.
