The Mahindra XUV700 has become a hot favourite SUV among the performance seekers for the commendable performance from its award-winning 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Despite its high kerb weight and size, the XUV700 impresses everyone with the strong acceleration ll of the turbo-petrol powertrain.
It is one of the few SUVs available with a turbo-petrol engine in its segment, and while the fuel efficiency of this engine is nothing much to talk about, it is the straight-line performance that makes it truly special.

But hang on – there is another SUV with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine known very much for its performance. It is smaller than the XUV700 but costs almost double. Say hello to the Audi Q2, the smallest Audi SUV in India. It is half the size of the XUV700 and can seat only five, compared to seven people in XUV700.

The Contenders
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine of the Mahindra XUV700 is the most powerful in its class. This vehicle participating in the drag race is the automatic version of the XUV700 turbo-petrol, in which the engine is coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and produces 200 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque.
The Audi Q2 is no match to the Mahindra XUV700 in terms of size and pricing. However, what’s matching here is the powertrain and the performance it delivers. The Audi Q2 also has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine under its hood, which is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and pumps out 190 PS of maximum power and 320 Nm of torque.

In all these three rounds, the Audi Q2 emerged as the clear winner, as it maintained a clear lead after getting a similarly good launch in all three rounds. Even with a fully-loaded cabin in the last round, when there was only one person in the XUV700 driving it, the Audi Q2 managed to win the drag race comfortably.

Despite having comparatively lower maximum power and torque figures, the Audi Q2 with its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine won over the Mahindra XUV700 with its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in the flat-out drag races here.
Two big reasons are contributing to the victory of Audi Q2. First is the advantage in the kerb weight – compared to the 2,040 kg of kerb weight of Mahindra XUV700, the Audi Q2 weighs just 1,505 kg.
The weight advantage of more than 500 kgs translates into a much better power-to-weight ratio, which works in favour of Audi Q2. Then there is a much more advanced 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox of Audi Q2, which offers more precise shifts and is much faster in its responses compared to the 6-speed torque converter of the Mahindra XUV700.
