Jason O'Halloran at Cadwell Park during FP1
Jason O’Halloran heads into the Bennetts British Superbike Championship race days at Cadwell Park as the man to beat after topping Saturday’s combined practice times.
Heavy rainfall in the afternoon meant that no riders were able to improve their lap-times during FP2. O’Halloran topped FP1 in the morning with a 1:25.667, which was quick enough to pip Kyle Ryde to top spot by 0.097s.
Ryan Vickers made it a Yamaha one-two-three on the second of the LAMI Omg Racing R1s, whilst Storm Stacey and Glenn Irwin completed the top five.
Josh Brookes was the leading BMW rider in sixth, ahead of local favourite Lee Jackson and Christian Iddon. Charlie Nesbitt, fresh from bagging his maiden BSB podiums at Thruxton, was ninth, whilst Peter Hickman, another local hero at Cadwell Park, completed the top 10.
Leon Haslam and championship leader Tommy Bridewell were the final two riders to automatically qualify for tomorrow’s Superpole qualifying session.
Jack Kennedy was the best of the rest in 13th but will have to go through Q1 on his Mar-Train Yamaha, as will Tom Neave (14th) and Luke Mossey (15th). Franco Bourne the day 16th overall on his first visit to Cadwell Park on a Superbike.
Max Cook and Danny Buchan will take no further part this weekend at Cadwell Park. Cook crashed during Friday evening’s test session and after feeling less than 100% after a couple of laps in FP1, has opted to sit the meeting out.
Meanwhile, Buchan crashed at the bottom of the Mountain in FP1 and appeared to take a knock to the head. The SYNETIQ BMW rider has been taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for precautionary checks.
Danny Kent is also absent due to “circumstances beyond the team’s control,” whilst Tito Rabat and McAMS Yamaha have gone their separate ways after three rounds together.
Tomorrow’s opening qualifying session (August 27) is due to take place at 13:30, and this will be followed by the Superpole session at 14:00. The top three riders from Q1 will join the top 12 in the Superpole session.
The opening BSB race of the weekend at Cadwell is scheduled for 17:00 on Sunday afternoon, whilst Bank Holiday Monday’s races are due to take place at 13:15 and 16:15.
