BMW Motorrad has launched the R nineT 100 Years & R 18 100 Years in India. Both the BMW R nineT 100 Years and R 18 100 Years are limited to 1,923 units each and bookings for both bikes are now open across India.
The BMW R nineT 100 Years is priced at Rs 24 lakh while the R 18 100 Years commands a price tag of Rs 25.9 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
The BMW R nineT 100 years & R 18 100 Years celebrate the first bike from BMW Motorrad – the R 32 – which was revealed to the world in September 1923. Like the R 32, the R nineT and the R 18 are powered by air-cooled flat-twin engines.
The BMW R nineT 100 Years is a roadster motorcycle that is powered by an air-cooled 1,170cc flat-twin engine that pushes out 107.2bhp and 100.7Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
The BMW R 18 100 Years, on the other hand, is a cruiser motorcycle that is fitted with the largest engine ever fitted to a BMW Motorrad motorcycle.
The R 18 draws power from a 1,802cc air cooler, flat-twin engine that produces 89.8bhp and a chunky 158Nm of peak torque. The large flat-twin engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
Both the R nineT and R18 100 Years models get quite a few cosmetic upgrades that help differentiate them from the regular versions of these motorcycles. These include special liveries and parts from BMW’s Option 719 customization setup.
The nineT gets a unique livery with the fuel tank sporting a unique black, white and chrome mix with 100 years badging and knee pads. The bike sports Option 719 Classic wheels along with milled cylinder head covers, engine housing covers, seat holders, oil filler plug, adjustable hand levers and footpegs and mirrors. The seat sports a dual-tone black and oxblood finish for the seat while the rear seat cowl gets quite a bit of chrome.
The changes on the R 18 are more subtle compared to the R nineT. The cosmetic changes on the R 18 include double paint lines finished in white that circulate around the teardrop fuel tank.
This special edition R 18 also gets 100 Years badging along with a dual-tone black/oxblood seat with diamond embossing. The R 18 100 Years also gets an Akrapovic exhaust, LED headlight, heated grips and adaptive cruise control.
Thoughts About BMW Motorrad’s 100th Anniversary Specials
BMW Motorrad is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year and to celebrate this milestone the Bavarian firm has released two special edition versions of the R nineT and R 18. Both these bikes continue to draw power from a flat twin engine similar to the engine that powered the first motorcycle – the R 32.
