A new rumor suggests the regular M2 will receive a healthy 22-hp boost.
A new rumor suggests the BMW M2 (G87) will receive a healthy power boost in 2024, according to Bimmerpost forum user ynguldyn. The smallest M car, powered by BMW's 3.0-liter straight-six S58 motor, will reportedly be upgraded to produce 475 horsepower. Currently, this model is rated at 453 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.
That's a substantial increase of 22 horses, although ynguldyn does not mention additional torque. Interestingly, this power increase doesn't signal the arrival of the Competition or CS model and is expected to be part of a model update.
This more muscular model is expected to arrive in August 2024, with exterior styling changes and an additional color for an existing wheel design. This is yet to be confirmed by BMW, but the source has previously made accurate predictions on future BMW updates.

This would make sense, as the M2 CS is expected to debut in 2025 with more than 500 hp on tap. If BMW does introduce an M2 Competition, we can expect this variant to fall between the standard M2 and the Competition Sport derivative.
Earlier this year, BMW officials said there are no plans to introduce a Competition version of the M2 but noted that they can't rule it out yet.
Whether the M2 will retain its available six-speed manual gearbox in this more powerful guise remains to be seen. BMW M has already said the G87 will be the last M car with a manual transmission. Still, there's a possibility the Munich-based brand will remove the option when the updated model arrives, especially if uptake has been slow.

Furthermore, ynguldyn claims the regular 2 Series Coupe will benefit from a bevy of interior updates to make the cockpit more upmarket. This will be done with plusher materials and switchgear; we expect the M2 will also adopt these changes. According to ynguldyn, the facelift is scheduled for 2025.
The M2 will reportedly benefit from additional exterior colors when the updated model arrives, and a carbon roof will be an option for the M240i models. Production will continue in Mexico.
Finally, ynguldyn claims the G87 M2 will reach the end of the road in 2029, with production expected to conclude in July of that year. With BMW M looking towards electrification, we can expect its successor to arrive as a pure EV.
