The X1 range is revealed with both pure electric and PHEV models
BMW has released details of its new X1 range, which will include the pure-electric iX1 for the first time.
The pure-electric compact SUV will be offered in iX1 xDrove30 specification, which allows for a range of up to 272 miles on a charge thanks to a 64.7 kWh battery.
Power comes from dual electric motors, producing a combined 313hp, and charging is possible at up to 130 kW on high-power DC points. This brings a 10-80% charge down to half an hour, adding 75 miles in just 10 minutes.
AC charging is available at up to 11 kW as standard, though there is the option to boost that to 22 kW AC, for a full charge in six and a half hours, or less than four hours respectively.
Charging software developed for the i7 has been fitted to the iX1, which sees a gradual and smooth drop in charging rate once at a high state of charge, rather than the previous “stepped” curve found on BMW EVs, allowing for shorter charging times.
A pair of plug-in hybrids will also be available to buyers – the X1 sDrive25e and X1 xDrive30e – which offer an electric-only driving range of up to 55 miles, and include charging at 7.4 kW AC. Three cylinder petrol engines support the electric motor, which is powered by a 14.2 kWh battery.
Prices are yet to be announced for UK plug-in versions of the X1 line-up, but will be revealed closer to on-sale date.
