It is the Munich brand’s great surprise for the middle of the decade. The new BMW 5 Series, as well as the electric version of the saloon, are already in the works at the Bavarian company. However, it has a more practical ace up its sleeve in the form of the BMW i5 Touring 2024, which we have a sneak peek at.
Except for the Taycan Sport Turismo, the electric vehicle market is now restricted to compacts, sedans, and SUVs. There are few family cars available with this form of propulsion. With the advent of the Audi A6 e-tron Avant in the middle of the decade, that situation will change.
The four-ringed brand is ready to take on this market segment, despite stiff competition from one of its primary competitors.
BMW is also planning to launch an electrified family. The upcoming i5, the zero-emission edition of the new 5 Series, has been under development for a few months at the Munich brand. Although it will take a few months for the station wagon to resemble a prototype, we already know that it will have an i5 Touring. A model that we are looking forward to seeing in this initial reproduction, and that will combine adaptability and a vast internal space with the efficiency of an electric vehicle.
The BMW i5 Touring 2024 will be the first electric vehicle in the BMW family.
The new Bavarian electric station wagon will launch with a completely new design, based on the Series 5 model. Its “Full LED” headlights will be slimmer and stretched towards the fins, with a fresh take on the twin flatter ovoid grill amid them. The grille will use the same design as the new i4 and iX3, with a closed black panel that will be peppered with chrome inserts in sportier models, as well as other distinguishing features.
Aside from the unique details of the electrics in the instrument cluster, there will be no difference in the interior and dashboard design between the Series 5 and the Series 5 Touring of the next generation. The i5 Touring, on the other hand, will have plenty of interior space and a large trunk with no hindrance from the engine, electric motors, or batteries. At the very least, the German brand will ensure that the degree of adaptability and utility is comparable to the combustion family.
The “eDrive40” and “eDrive45” will feature a single rear electric motor, with two additional variants fitted with two electric motors in the “xDrive40” and “M50 xDrive “, with a maximum power of 580 hp. According to internal sources, this model, which is expected to enter the market towards the end of 2024, would have a latest generation lithium-ion battery with a maximum capacity of 120 kWh -standard in all versions-, enabling various degrees of autonomy up to 700 kilometers on a single charge.
