The BMW i3 was the brand’s first pure-electric offering.
BMW has confirmed that the production of the brand’s first-gen i3 will end. The last example of the electric hatchback will roll out from BMW’s production line in Leipzig, Germany in July 2022.
The five-door electric hatchback was first showcased as a concept in 2011, before being introduced in various international markets in 2013. The BMW i3 was the brand’s first pure-electric offering.
According to reports, the plant will undergo a reorganisation, allowing it to start production of the upcoming third-gen Mini Countryman. The i3 also makes way for the brand’s new line-up of electric vehicles. The upcoming BMW iX1 and Mini Countryman models will now be BMW’s entry-level EV offerings.
BMW has also confirmed that it will have 6 BEV models by the end of this year, a number which will rise to 13 by the end of 2023.
