The South African BMW 3 Series range recently gained a new, local-only specification – the Mzansi Edition.
This styling pack is available on three models, with the most expensive derivate being the 320d Mzansi Edition at a price of R908,126.
Below, we take a look at what you get when spending this money.
Mzansi styling
The Mzansi Edition styling pack sees a range of popular features added as standard, with these additions being significantly more expensive if they were to be selected individually.
This includes the M Sport and Shadowline packages, which see the exterior of the Mzansi Edition noticeably changed when compared to the standard trim.
These options add sportier-looking bumpers and side skirts, 19-inch M alloy wheels, red brake calipers, LED door projectors, and LED backlighting behind the grille.
It’s also treated to a gloss black kidney grille, headlights surrounds, side sills, and rear diffuser – as well as black chrome tailpipes, thanks to the Shadowline design option.
This model then gets a unique front splitter, along with carbon fibre inserts that match the exterior mirror caps and rear spoiler.
3 Series features
The BMW 3 Series is a great option if you’re looking for a premium all-rounder, and the Mzansi Edition makes it even easier to live with.
Standard features comprise automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, cruise control, a multifunction steering wheel, ambient lighting, and the BMW live cockpit professional.
The latter is a R26,400 option when fitted to the non-Mzansi Edition vehicles and provides a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster accompanied by a 10.25-inch infotainment display on the dash.
The latest iDrive 7 operating system is installed, too, allowing access to cloud-based navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a voice assistant, and BMW Connected Services for its passengers.
Connected Services is an innovative ability in the 3 Series that gives drivers real-time traffic updates, optimised travel routes, maintenance appointment reminders, and 24/7 concierge and emergency services.
The Mzansi Edition’s dynamic nature then shines through via the fitment of Alcantara leather and Sensatec seats, ambient lighting, a sunroof, and M Sport seat belts.
It’s also quite practical, with space for up to 480 litres of cargo while carrying five passengers.
Safety systems
The 3 Series boasts a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, in addition to an array of passive and active safety systems.
Passive programmes include all-round parking sensors, driver attentiveness assist, run-flat tyres, and follow-me-home headlights.
In the active systems department, you can expect dynamic traction control, stability control, pull-away assist, and ABS with cornering brake control.
Performance
The 320d Mzansi Edition is powered 2.0-litre, in-line four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine paired with an eight-speed Sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
The motor drives the rear wheels, and develops 140kW and 400Nm.
This is good for a 0-100km/h sprint in 6.8 seconds, as well as a combined fuel consumption of 6.3l/100km.
If the optional tow hook is fitted, your 320d can then tow up to 1,600kg.
Price
The South African price for the BMW 320d Mzansi Edition is R908,126
Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,000km BMW Motorplan.
