Bentley accelerates its Beyond100 strategy to release five hybrid models in 2022, and five fully electric models between 2025 and 2030
Bentley will launch five new hybrid cars this year, and five all-electric models between 2025 and 2030, as part of its Beyond100 strategy to reduce the brand’s environmental impact.
The brand has pledged to accelerate its electrification strategy, following a £2.5billion ‘sustainable’ investment that will fund five new EVs and a renovation of its Crewe factory to produce them. The British brand is also set to unveil five new hybrid models this year, which will be derivatives of its current offerings.
The current Bentley Bentayga Hybrid and Flying Spur Hybrid use V6 plug-in powertrains, leaving room for more powerful electrified versions that utilise the V8 hybrid set-up from the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. This offers 690bhp and a thumping 870Nm of torque in the Porsche, and would place the V8 hybrid Bentley models above the W12 flagships in the range.
A hybrid version of the Continental GT is also in the works and could launch this year, with both the V6 and V8 hybrid options. The final hybrid expected in 2022 could be a long-wheelbase PHEV version of the Bentayga.
Following these hybrid models, Bentley’s first all-electric car will be unveiled in 2025. A new EV model will be released each subsequent year until 2030.
Bentley’s Beyond100 plans have been enabled by a £2.5 billion cash injection, which will fund improvements to its manufacturing site. To reduce the environmental impact of its Crewe plant, which is already a carbon-neutral facility, Bentley will install 10,000 new solar panels for a total of 40,000, and look to minimise water consumption and landfill waste in the coming years.
The company is also researching sustainable bio-fuels for use in fleet cars, and aims to reach carbon-neutrality across its global dealer network by 2025. These plans are part of Bentley’s wider goal to become end-to-end carbon neutral by 2030.
Bentley boss Adrian Hallmark said: “Simultaneously accelerating our Beyond100 strategy and securing BEV production at Crewe, alongside a £2.5 billion investment, makes this a major landmark in Bentley’s 102-year history. The world is changing and we need to play our part in neutralising our environmental impact. That means delivering on our aim to be end-to-end carbon neutral by 2030, and reaffirming our role as the leader in sustainable luxury mobility.”
