The Bentley Mulliner Bacalar harks back to a time when coachbuilding was the traditional way of buying a car. Bespoke bodywork would be combined with the customers favoured engineering marque to create some of the most individual automotive expressions of art. Bentley’s one of twelve open grand tourer reignites this tradition, and invites the lucky owners to specify the car as they wish.
When the Bentley EXP 100 GT concept car was revealed to the world some years ago, it captured the imagination of many. A beautiful sculptural body delivered something totally unique, and it’s that concept that went on to inspire the Bentley Mulliner Bacalar. Just twelve cars will be built at a price os around £1.5 million – each already spoken for.
Powered by a 6.0-litre W12 engine, the Bacalar makes use of 650bhp and 664lb ft torque via an intelligent all-wheel drive system. 0-60mph takes just 3.5 seconds, with the totally open car rocketing on to a top speed of over 200mph.
Customers will be able to ‘co-create’ their new toy with the Bentley Mulliner Team and have total dominion over the car’s specification. Bespoke paints and materials will make every Bacalar unique, something highlighted by six example specifications created by Mulliner.
Dubbed The Clerkenwell, The Menlo, The Fulton, The Greenwich, The Brickell, and The Randwick, each car exemplifies various customisations a customer may choose to pursue. For example The Clerkenwell is inspired by the famed Brooklands race track and has absorbed a traditional green and brown theme – it even incorporates some Cheltenham Tweed trim. The Menlo is an intriguing mixture of deep cobalt shades with contrasting streaks of yellow. Its cabin also features Beluga hide. The Brickell is defined by its atom silver paint and clashing Hyperactive accents.
Bentley are also running a competition to keep adults and children occupied by designing their very own Bentley Mulliner Bacalar.
