The new Bentley Bentayga LWB 2022 is still being developed by the British. An SUV with large dimensions and a long wheelbase that will compete with the prestigious – and now defunct – Mulsanne. New spy photographs show a prototype in winter testing for the second time.
The development of the new Bentley Bentayga LWB continues, despite the fact that for many, the 14 months that the British brand accumulates prototypes of this ultra-luxury model have become an authentic eternity, with prototypes appearing and disappearing from time to time and in entirely different regions. Which isn’t to say that the firm is unconcerned about the situation.
And is that you have new spy photographs of the Bentayga’s extended wheelbase variant?
They’re a one-off after being spotted in southern Europe this summer and then disappearing until these winter testing, the second for the premium SUV that will earn Mulsanne EWB consumers. Despite the fact that it was specifically intended for China and the Middle East, the model will be among the finest in its class in this regard.
Aesthetically, it isn’t very unique, save for the fact that all of the front grille grilles have a metallic finish rather than the black seen in earlier sightings. The borders of the oval taillights, as well as the new split elliptical rear exhaust finishers, have the same finish. The fact is that this variant’s stylistic innovations will be limited to the massive back doors.
Despite being hidden beneath the promotional vinyl of the «Beyond 100» strategy, the imposing increase in the length’s height – just over 5.3 meters in total – as well as the distance between axes is clearly visible, allowing for an interior with a habitability almost comparable to that of a limousine. The back seats can be either a two- or three-seat bench or two separate seats.
There is no word on which engine will power the Bentayga LWB’s front end, but it is expected to be one of two options: the strong 550 PS 4.0-liter biturbo V8 or the special 6.0-liter 635 PS W12, both with all-wheel drive and a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. The apex of the British SUV line will be unveiled in 2022, while further particular specifics of the unveiling are yet unknown, with the event expected to take place no later than next spring.
Bentley is having one of its most enjoyable periods in its history. Despite the challenges, the British company had a successful year in 2020. The British company envisions a future in which it is devoted to discarding Porsche’s technological legacy, which it considers to be its greatest weight.
Without a question, the year 2020 was one of the most challenging in our history, as well as the history of vehicle manufacturers, because to the global Covid-19 epidemic. However, the luxury brands had no big issues, on the contrary, they closed the year with results that were both favorable and unexpected, according to those in charge.
Bentley was one of them, and it now confronts an electrified future.
However, not all is flowers, as despite giving Mulliner more visibility, the Crewe business continues to notice how its models do not leave the same profit margin as other manufacturers such as Lamborghini. Surprisingly, it’s a brand from the same German conglomerate.
Despite the fact that the two philosophies are radically different, with Italians focusing on competitive performance rather than the most exquisite luxury, Bentley understands that their net margin should be larger due to synergies with another brand in the company, presuming a benefit that is not actual. Only the Bentayga, out of the three models on offer (Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga), gives the biggest income, indicating that the British brand knows precisely where the problem is: it’s called Porsche.
All three are built on the German sports car manufacturer’s MSB chassis, with which they have an intrinsic Porsche lineage for many of the mechanical changes they make to fit Bentley characteristics. Something that will soon change, since the plan is to switch to Audi platforms.
Many will question if this change of course makes sense, given that the one with the four rings and Porsche are closer than ever. And it does, since the Bentayga is built on the Q7’s MLB Evo platform, which has tremendous margins.
The fact is that, despite their similarities in some areas, the two Germans are vastly different. Performance comes first at Porsche, while luxury comes second at Audi, with more comfort on board and higher performance. A quality that, when the measures are taken into account, does not exclude the other, and with an addition that could be a long-term issue: the fact that the British is considered the luxury brand with the four rings if it decides to go ahead with Horch, despite the significant distance between the two brands.
