The Jaguar E-Type is one of the most iconic classic cars in the world. Its sculpted shape is elegant and absolutely timeless. It is often said the the great Enzo Ferrari reckoned it to be the most beautiful car in the world. However, some classic cars are parked up and forgotten about, quietly rusting in peace. One such barnfind E-Type’s fortunes have been reversed thanks to a complete restoration.
E-Type UK are a leader in the restoration of this iconic model. The 1964 car in question was last driven in 1979 before it was rediscovered and sold to its current owner. Thankfully the garage sheltered the Jag from the elements, meaning that the car was reasonably well preserved. That said, the restoration did involve cutting out any rust and applying additional strengthening.
E-Type UK Founder, Marcus Holland said: “A restoration like this is a real challenge for our team; 40 years of inactivity takes an enormous toll on every single part of a vehicle. But customers come to us to make their dream car a reality, so we will take it apart piece-by-piece, clean and improve everything we can save and replace everything that we can’t with better-than-original quality.
The car’s new owner wanted it finished in the same Opalescent Silver Blue that the E-Type left Jaguar’s factory in. A break from the original specification came in the form of a new interior upholstery colour, Oxblood Red. It’s certainly a striking combination, but one that looks great on these Series 1 cars. A leather surround on the Jaguar’s intake is a nod to one of only 12 E-type Lightweight models ever made.
The original 3.8-litre XK6 engine was modified with high-lift cams, a balanced and lightened crank and new seals. It is paired with a new five-speed manual gearbox to help improve drivability. Additionally, an aluminium radiator and header tank were also fitted to improve cooling. The final alteration involved its new full stainless-steel sports exhaust.
This Classic coupe has been restored to its former glory, thanks to the mechanical miracle workers at E-Type UK.
