Audi TT Coupe launched at RM285K

KUALA LUMPUR: Audi Malaysia has launched the new TT Coupe, which is priced at RM284,900.

The styling is evolutionary while the biggest change in the car is the use of the Audi virtual cockpit, a 12.3-inch hi-res colour display that replaces the analogue dials of yore.

The virtual cockpit is an entirely digital dashboard designed to enhance the driver-centric experience with 3D graphics and brilliant clarity. The display combines the functions of traditional gauges with the central MMI monitor in one unique TFT display. A quad-core Tegra 30 processor from NVIDIA renders up to 60 frames per second and ensures the gauges and other functions are displayed with precision.

The MMI system is further enhanced with an intuitive user interface incorporating the traditional push-turn knob, a multifunction steering wheel, natural voice operation accommodating everyday speech and a touchpad that recognizes signs and finger gestures. Sat-nav is optional.

In the TT, the MMI touch interface is on the knob.This user interface is designed to require less driver attention than conventional systems, minimizing distraction and allowing the driver to keep their concentration on the road. Two display modes are available. In the Classic view, the speedometer and rev counter are in the foreground; in Progressive view, the virtual instruments are smaller, with the space that becomes free as a result providing ample room for other MMI radio functions, such as the infotainment and telephone features.

Both the virtual cockpit and MMI system were recently honoured by Popular Science with a “Product of the Future Award” at CES 2015.

Fronted by a broader and flatter singleframe grille, the curves, contours and proportions is inspired by the first-generation TT – introduced in 1998 – while showing stylistic updates to stay modern.

At 4.2m in length, the third-generation TT is shorter by 10mm than the previous model but comes with a longer wheelbase, making for shorter overhangs and an overall more aggressive stance.

The car gets Xenon plus headlamps with LED daytime running lights and LED taillights with dynamic turn signals. The Matrix LED headlight system, available in the A8 L as standard in Malaysia, is a RM9,000 option.

The TT front end and floor assembly are made of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel components, while the superstructure comprises aluminum castings, extruded sections and panels.

Out back, the boot offers up 305 litres of space, which is 13 litres more than before and can be extended by folding the rear seat backrests forward for a total luggage space of 712 litres.

quattro all-wheel drive is standard and the sports car’s engine is mated to a six-speed dual clutch S tronic transmission that provides smooth, quick shifts.

Like all current Audi models, the new TT also comes equipped with a slew of electronic features for efficient and safe driving, including a start/stop system with energy recuperation, Electronic Stabilisation Control (ESC), Traction Control (ASR), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), parking aid plus with selective display and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

The TT Coupe uses a 2.0-litre TFSI 4-cylinder engine with 230hp and 370Nm of torque for a 0-100kph time of 5.9 seconds. The TT is assembled at Audi’s plant in Hungary and is based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, which shares parts and component layout with other models in the Volkswagen Group stable.

According to Audi Malaysia managing director Immo Buschmann, “the latest TT will become the face of and play an integral role in making Audi the No. 1 premium brand in this market.”

Ten colour choices are available: Ibis White, Brilliant Black, Glacier White, Scuba Blue, Tango Red, Floret Silver, Monsoon Grey, Nano Grey, Mythos Black and a special Daytona Grey with pearl effect.

The TT Coupe can be specified with the S Line sport package for RM30,000 more, which will buy the TT owner such niceties that include sports suspension, sport seats, new 18-inch wheel design and aluminium inlays.

Audi Malaysia, a division of Volkswagen Group Malaysia, is the national sales company for the Audi brand in Malaysia, responsible for the overall strategy of sales, marketing training, and aftersales.

DRB-Hicom imports the cars that are exclusively retailed and serviced through Euromobil, which operate five outlets and a service centre.

On whether Audi cars will be locally assembled in future, Buschmann said it is under consideration and that Audi Malaysia is taking things one step at a time as it aims to meet targets for volume sales.
