The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron is the fifth electric model in Audi’s EV range in the USA. With coupe-SUVs becoming increasingly popular among buyers, Audi leaves no stone unturned in terms of choices for its customers. Audi has vowed to go all-electric by 2026, and it says models like the Q4 e-tron are helping it achieve its sustainability targets.
Here’s everything we know about the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron:
Exterior
The Q4 Sportback e-tron features the typical Audi e-SUV face with an enclosed Singleframe grille and wedge-shaped headlamps. The headlamps are reminiscent of the Q8 Sportback, which are Matrix LED units. The Q4 Sportback e-tron and the Q4 e-tron are the first models in the auto industry to feature digital light signatures; the driver can select from four different signatures. Just like the e-tron SUV, the front and rear lights greet customers with animated ‘coming-home’ and ‘leaving-home’ functions.
The shape of the Singleframe is similar to the concept version, and it is a structured closed surface within a broad, almost upright octagonal frame. It has a mesh design with chrome detailing and looks posher. The coupe can be had in four color options in the USA — Glacier White metallic, Pebble Grey, Navarra Blue, and Mythos Black.

There are two wheel designs on offer in the U.S. market. Both are 20-inch alloys. Customers can choose a Y-spoke design with graphite grey wheels or a V-spoke polygon design with matte titanium wheels.
The Q4 Sportback e-tron is differentiated from the Q4 e-tron with a low coupe-style roofline. At the rear, the spoiler of the 180.7-inch-long SUV coupe sits deep on the two-part window, and, like on the SUV, a light strip connects the combination lamps. The spoiler sits lower on the steeply two-part back glass, and because of the design, an extra range of around 12 km (7 miles) is possible compared to the Q4 e-tron on the WLTP test cycle.
Interior
The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron features a relatively traditional interior in the times when EVs are going overboard on minimalism, and many customers may appreciate that. The dashboard is chunky enough to let you know you’re sitting in an SUV, but not still not too big to compromise the space for the front passengers. It features sharp lines, a decorative trim panel (on the passenger side), a tilted central display, and a digital instrument cluster residing like a diamond between two vertical AC vents.
Like in the Q4 Sportback e-tron concept, the center console creates a floating effect, and the designers have been able to make it because it doesn’t need to hold a gear lever or hand brake actuation elements. While the concept SUV coupe featured a strip of thin buttons for controlling the air conditioning, the production SUV has bigger, conventional buttons. The steering is flattened out at the bottom and on top and comes with paddles to alter between three levels of brake energy recuperation. It also has touch-sensitive buttons to control digital cockpit and infotainment functions.

What’s more, customers get standard leather upholstery and wood trim. Three seat options are available at no additional cost: Black with Rock Gray stitching, Parchment Beige with steel gray stitching, and Santos Brown with Steel Gray stitching. Even though EVs are incredibly silent, Audi wants to eliminate wind and tire noise by offering dual-pane acoustic glass for the front side windows for a more silent driving experience. However, the acoustic glass is a part of the Convenience Package that costs an additional USD 1,800. The package adds more premium features like 4-way lumbar support for the front seats, heated steering, keyless start/stop, and more.
10.25 inch Audi virtual cockpit, the MMI infotainment system with an 11.6-inch touchscreen display, natural-language voice control activated with “Hey Audi,” center airbag, and augmented reality head-up display are some of the top interior features of the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron. There’s 26.1 cu. ft. of luggage space in the rear of the electric SUV coupe. Folding down the rear seats frees up 54.4 cu. ft. of cargo volume.
Specifications
In the U.S., Audi offers the Q4 Sportback e-tron in the 50 e-tron quattro variant. With 295 hp and 339 lb-ft, the U.S.-spec Q4 Sportback 50 e-tron quattro can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds and attain a top speed of 112 mph.
As Audi was expecting, the Q4 Sportback 50 e-tron quattro’s 77 kWh (net) battery pack delivers an EPA-estimated range of 241 miles. The EPA-est. energy consumption rating of the electric SUV-coupe is 36 kWh/100 mi. The maximum charging rate is 9.6 kW (AC)/125 kW (DC). Charging from 0-100% SoC on AC at 9.6 kW takes nine hours. Using a DC fast charger, 5-80% charging takes just about 38 minutes.
Audi has optimized heat management with an onboard heat pump. Waste heat from the high voltage electric modules is used to control the climate in the cabin. That said, there’s also a three-stage brake energy recuperation that uses navigational and topographical data to enable regen. The front axle only engages when the system detects low traction. The Q4 Sportback e-tron runs like a regular RWD SUV when the grip and surfaces are good.

U.S. Price & Release Date
The Audi Q4 family is imported from the same production site as the VW ID.4, the Volkswagen Zwickau plant (Germany). The all-electric compact SUV coupe is available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims at USD 52,700, USD 56,800, and USD 60,300, respectively. The Q4 Sportback e-tron is eligible for USD 7,500 in federal tax incentives.

Deliveries of the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron in the U.S. should commence in a few weeks. Forum posts on audiworld.com indicate that customers are losing their patience with the delay in deliveries. According to importinfo.com, Volkswagen Group of America imported four units of the Q4 Sportback e-tron from Germany recently. This small batch arrived at the San Diego port on July 12, 2022.

Sales in the U.S.
Audi sold 33,184 cars in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2021, a 46.9% decline compared to 2020. However, the brand ended 2021 with overall sales of 196,038, a 5% year-to-date increase. EVs accounted for just 5.6% of Audi’s total 2021 sales. 45 units of the Q4 e-tron were delivered, while only 19 Q4 Sportback e-trons were delivered. Note that these were not to customers, but for demos and roadshows (launch preparation vehicles). Audi’s overall EV sales were up by 53% compared to the previous year.
In H1 2022, Audi strangely reported negative sales volume for the Q4 range: -13 for the Q4 e-tron and -7 for the Q4 Sportback e-tron. These numbers could indicate the recall of some launch preparation vehicles that were delivered earlier. The German automaker sold a total of 8,009 EVs between January and June 2022, 16.3% more than in H1 2021 (6,884 units), led by premium models like the e-tron and e-tron GT.
