Audi and Porsche are recalling over 32,000 cars to fix a rear axle alignment issue. This issue as it seems spans across several vehicle segments and body types. The brands had previously already issued a recall, but the previous repair didn’t fix the issue on as many as 32,000 cars.
When one purchases a premium German car, it is expected that the car will be made to the highest standards. Most often than not, it is made to the highest standards with the usage of the best materials. However, there are certain times when some components make it through the quality checks despite being sub-standard.
Such situations lead to recalls like this. Recalls are an expensive affair and the manufacturer has to bear the cost in terms of finances and sometimes even in terms of brand image. In some cases like this one, the issue is caused by something as small as a nut.
The reason Porsche and Audi have now issued a recall is, the affected cars come with a nut that could fail. If it does fail, it would lead to the rear-end of the car suddenly going out of alignment. If this happens at high speeds, it could lead to dire situations.
This recall covers a really wide range of Audi cars including the A4 sedan, A4 Allroad, A5 Cabriolet, A5 Coupe, A5 Sportback, A6 sedan, A6 Allroad, A7, A8, Q7, Q8, etc. It also includes all of Audi’s performance models like the S4 sedan, S5 Cabriolet, S5 Coupe, S6 sedan, S7, SQ5, SQ5 Sportback, SQ7, SQ8, RS5 Coupe, RS5 Sportback, RS6 Avant, RS7, and RSQ8.
That is basically almost all of the models produced by Audi. The recall is for select vehicles produced in 2020 and 2021. As for Porsche, the only model being recalled is the Cayenne produced between 2020 and 2021.
When Audi had previously recalled the cars, the faulty nut was replaced but the suspension alignment of the rear axle was not checked and this if left unchecked, could result in uneven wear of certain components and tyres. If any wear and tear is found, the necessary components will be replaced.
Thoughts On Audi & Porsche Recalling 32,000 Cars Over Rear Axle Alignment Issues
As aforementioned, recalls are an expensive affair, and only dedicated and reputed manufacturers issue recalls when necessary. The very fact that a second recall is being issued to check suspension components, displays the high standards of Audi and Porsche’s internal quality checks.
