Audi has announced its entrance into the compact electic SUV market with the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Q4 Sportback e-tron. The Q4 e-tron is built on a Volkswagen-made modular electric drive matrix (MEB). It goes on sale in Europe in June 2021.
The range comprises three drive versions, spearheaded by a quattro model with a maximum output of 220 kW. Attributes that they all share are zero local emissions driving and high ranges, charging times of around ten minutes for sufficient power to travel about 130 kilometers in ideal conditions and convenient charging with the e-tron Charging Service.
The rear-wheel drive Q4 40 e-tron achieves a range of up to 520 kilometers.
Markus Duesmann, CEO of AUDI AG, says: “In 2021 the electric offensive is gaining further momentum at Audi. For the first time, more than half of all models newly launched in one year are electric. In this way we are more than doubling the number of our all-electric models, from three to seven.”
He adds: “Sustainability is of key importance for us, beyond the power source. That is why we wish to compensate the entire CO2 emissions resulting from the manufacture of the Q4 e-tron models. This means that all vehicles are to be delivered to our customers with a neutral carbon balance sheet.”
The Audi Q4 e-tron will be rolling off the same production line as the Volkswagen ID.4 in Zwickau in Saxony, and, in the future, another Volkswagen model.
Peter Kössler, AUDI AG board member for Production and Logistics, states: “The cross-brand collaboration in Zwickau demonstrates once again the enormous synergy potential that we enjoy with the Volkswagen Group. The on-schedule start of production of the Audi Q4 e-tron is testament to the outstanding teamwork – among the Volkswagen and Audi colleagues alike. Our compact electric SUV is unmistakably a true Audi that will wow our customers with its outstanding quality and everyday usability.”
By 2025, Audi plans to launch more than 20 fully electric models and expand its PHEV offering. The two main Audi plants in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm are also set to manufacture fully electric vehicles: So beginning in 2022, the first electric model based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) – developed jointly with Porsche – will roll off the Ingolstadt assembly line.
