In the realm of luxury cars, a R250,000 roof lining with twinkling stars might not seem like a bad investment.
The same goes for a high-performance SUV – What’s R100,000 extra to ensure you get the best mags on the market?
We found several examples of “expensive” extras available on vehicles for sale in South Africa, and listed them below.
Audi A3 – Upgrade Package
Climate control and LED lights are becoming a standard feature on many mid-tier hatchbacks, but not if you buy an Audi A3 Sportback 35 TFSI.
The “essential” upgrade package for this hatch brings LED headlamps, dual-zone climate control, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror for an additional R23,000 – on top of the R561,000 base price.
Adding the extended technology pack or the S Line interior option will add a further R33,500 and R26,500, respectively.
Volkswagen Kombi 6.1 – Two-tone Paint
The VW Kombi is available with a funky two-tone paint job, harking back to the days of the T1.
This paint effect can be selected with either a white or silver top half and a range of colours for the lower section – but will still set the owner back R34,300 on top of the R945,200 asking price.
Porsche Macan – GT Design 21-inch Wheels
The Porsche Macan S is the most affordable new Porsche SUV on sale, offered with a high level of customisation.
Fancy paint and interior options aside, the Macan can be made truly special with a nice set of gloss black 21-inch GT design wheels – which will add R111,400 to the base price of R1,271,000.
With multiple levels of customisation on offer, it’s not hard to add another R500,000 to the asking price by selecting several enhancements.
Mercedes-Benz GLS – MBUX Rear Tablet
If you don’t want cords causing a mess in your luxurious Mercedes-Benz, the manufacturer offers a rear-seat integrated tablet setup.
The benefit of this setup is that it can control functions within the car, while keeping the cabin sleek and clean.
This luxury will set the new owner back R135,000 on top of the R2,107,184 price tag.
Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 – Nappa Leather
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 is the pinnacle of luxury from Mercedes-Benz and comes with an asking price of R3,033,220.
It is already beautifully appointed – as can be expected – but for the discerning customer who wants their Maybach to be unique, there’s a MANUFAKTUR crystal white interior package.
This includes a Nappa leather roof lining, two Maybach scatter cushions, and everything else covered in the finest, softest leather – even the door sills.
Selecting this option will set you back R237,000.
Ford Mustang RTR pack
The Ford Performance Centre in Pretoria will satisfy a Mustang owner’s wildest desires for more power and performance upgrades.
The upgrades are available for both the 2.3 Ecoboost and the 5.0 V8 GT models of the car.
The most extreme package offers V8 Mustangs a massive bump in power to 529kW and 820Nm – mainly through the use of a supercharger in addition to a host of other enhancements.
The price works out to R565,000 on top of the cost of the R1,030,100 for the V8 Mustang.
