2024 Cadillac Escalade IQ: What We Know So Far
by Karl Furlong
Cadillac has confirmed that it will reveal a fully electric version of the legendary Escalade, the company's large and luxurious SUV that remains popular with A-listers everywhere. General Motors already has a chunky electric SUV in its stable in the form of the GMC Hummer EV SUV, and we expect this vehicle to donate its Ultium architecture for use in the Caddy. Of course, the Escalade IQ will be less rugged than the Hummer and should have three spacious seating rows along with all the technology already found in the existing Escalade. Concerns have been raised about how environmentally friendly these large and heavy EVs actually are, but that's not going to stop the Escalade IQ from taking an iconic nameplate into the electric era.

When Is The 2024 Cadillac Escalade IQ Coming Out?
Although a specific release date for the Cadillac Escalade IQ hasn't been shared, the manufacturer did confirm that it would be revealed later in 2023 in the USA. We assume it will be coming out as a 2024 model either late in 2023 or at the start of 2024.
What’s The Price Of The 2024 Escalade IQ?
The price of the 2024 Cadillac Escalade IQ hasn’t been shared just yet, and will probably only be known closer to the reveal date. We do know that the base Escalade starts at $79,295 MSRP, and we fully expect the electric Escalade IQ to be more expensive than this at a cost of around $90,000. Upper trims and/or more powerful models will easily exceed $100k.
Traditional Escalade rivals like the Lincoln Navigator and Jeep Grand Wagoneer have yet to go electric, so the Navigator will be one of the first vehicles of its kind to do so. Customers willing to explore options beyond legacy automakers may also consider the Rivian R1S SUV, although this vehicle lacks the presence and status of the Escalade nameplate.

New Cadillac Escalade IQ Exterior And Colors
So far, only one teaser of the Cadillac Escalade IQ's exterior has been shared, and it revealed nothing more than the model name. We don't expect the IQ's design to be a drastic departure from the gas-powered Escalade, much in the way that a Ford F-150 Lightning is still identifiable as an F-150.
Overall, then, one can expect the new Escalade IQ to have an equally substantial footprint, a tall front end that will send pedestrians scurrying across the road just a little bit faster than they usually would, and a boxy profile to ensure a spacious cabin.
Where the IQ might differ is in the details, where it could inherit some of the design cues of the smaller Lyriq. That could see the traditional grille replaced by a smoothed-over front section with more outlandish illumination, along with slimmer daytime running lights which we've imagined in our own render. At the back, slim horizontal LEDs actually blend quite nicely with the basic Escalade profile we've come to know so well.
Wheel sizes are likely to be as large as 22 inches, but perhaps Cadillac will make a slightly smaller wheel available to improve the 2024 Escalade IQ's range. No colors for the Cadillac Escalade IQ have been confirmed just yet, but the regular Escalade comes in hues like Argent Silver, Dark Emerald, and Crystal White. Of course, we'd be shocked if a stealthy black option was not provided for the Escalade IQ, a color that is as closely tied to the Caddy SUV as red is to a Ferrari.

Cadillac Escalade IQ Dimensions
This is likely to be one of the largest EVs when it eventually hits the road, as dimensions for the Cadillac Escalade IQ are likely to be close to those of the gas-powered model (pictured below). The normal Escalade measures 211.9 inches in length and has a 120.9-inch wheelbase. Its width is substantial, too, at 81.1 inches, and the height works out to 76.7 inches. If that's not large enough, Cadillac also sells the gargantuan Escalade ESV, which is 227 inches long and has a stretched 134.1-inch wheelbase, but it's not clear if an Escalade IQ ESV will ever be offered.
The combination of a large battery and these ample dimensions will make the Escalade IQ one of the heaviest vehicles on the road. Recently, a teardown video demonstrated why the Hummer EV has a staggering curb weight of over 9,000 pounds. The Escalade is an even larger vehicle in some respects, and if the IQ model has the same heavy battery structure of the Hummer, it could also top 9,000 lbs.

Cadillac Escalade IQ Powertrain And Performance
Although we can only speculate for now since technical specs haven't been released, it's entirely feasible that the Cadillac Escalade IQ's powertrain will be shared with the GMC Hummer EV. In the Hummer EV SUV, the tri-motor setup produces 830 horsepower and up to 11,500 lb-ft of torque, although this represents combined axle torque so is a bit misleading. Despite how heavy it's expected to be, those outputs would give the Escalade IQ a likely 0-60 mph time of below four seconds, making it even quicker than the Escalade-V with its supercharged V8 engine.
GMC also sold a version of the Hummer EV Pickup with 1,000 hp, so the Escalade IQ has the potential to be even quicker with this sort of power. While a rear-wheel-drive version is possible, all-wheel drive should either be available on all trims or standard.
Whereas the gas-powered Escalade can tow up to 8,200 pounds, it's unlikely that the electric Escalade IQ will match this. To make it as comfortable as possible, the new Escalade IQ should come with the regular Escalade's Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension.
Gas Mileage, Range, And Charging
With technology where it is right now, a massive battery is one of the only viable ways to provide a large EV with a decent range. GMC proved that much when it stuck a simply enormous 205-kWh (usable capacity) battery in the Hummer EV Pickup, and even this is only enough for a range of up to 355 miles or 314 miles for the Hummer EV SUV. The Hummer’s efficiency is one of the poorest for EVs, with just 47 MPGe combined.
It’s possible that the Escalade IQ won’t be as inefficient since it won’t need to be configured or reinforced for off-road use like the Hummer, but this remains to be seen.
In terms of charging, the 800-volt DC fast-charging capability of the Hummer allows for charging at up to 300 kW, which the Escalade IQ should be capable of as well.

Cadillac Escalade IQ Interior And Cargo
The gas-powered Cadillac Escalade already has a superb cabin replete with plush materials and impressive technologies. It’s a great base for the interior of the Cadillac Escalade IQ, unless the manufacturer decides to give the IQ an entirely different setup inside.
In the normal Escalade pictured below, there is a gorgeous OLED curved display with about 38 combined inches of real estate, including a 16.9-inch touchscreen and a 14.2-inch gauge cluster. It comes with all the expected connectivity features along with a powerful 19-speaker sound system or an optional 36-speaker AKG Studio Reference sound system that is one of the best on the market right now. We anticipate that the Escalade IQ will be even more advanced, and a recent report indicates that the Escalade will soon be coming with a full-width digital display that spans the entire dashboard, much like the setup in the Celestiq. Navigation with augmented reality, available Super Cruise, front pedestrian detection, and all manner of parking assists should be on the menu.
The seats in the new Cadillac Escalade IQ electric SUV will probably be heated in the first two rows, with upper trims enjoying massaging seats and leatherette or leather upholstery. The normal Escalade comes with decadent trim options like Natural Figured Ash wood and Parchment Tamo Ash wood, and this is the level of luxury expected inside the IQ model as well.
Like the normal Escalade, the Escalade IQ will have three seating rows with available second-row captain’s chairs. It will be interesting to see whether the electric powertrain will allow Cadillac to free up more space for occupants and their stuff. The cargo space in the Cadillac Escalade IQ could match the regular Escalade, which would equate to 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 72.9 cubes behind the second row, and 121 cubes behind the first row.
