Volkswagen previews new front-end lighting for updated ID.3 EV hatch that’s heading Down Under
Volkswagen has posted a fresh teaser for the updated 2023 Volkswagen ID.3 ahead of its March 1 debut, showing off redesigned headlights for the all-electric hatch.
Posted on its social media channels, the teaser reveals a sharper-looking front lighting arrangement with daytime running lamps that encircle the outer edge of the headlight and are interlinked by a front light bar.
It also shows that the honeycomb inserts within the lower half of the bumper have gone, replaced by a pair of vertical air curtains that hint at an enhanced aerodynamics package.

An earlier video revealed the rear-end of the facelifted ID.3 also features revised tail-lights.
There is no word yet on powertrain and interior revisions, with the latter expected to herald a larger 12.0-inch infotainment screen running the car-maker’s latest software.
Perhaps the biggest news will be the anticipated launch of the Volkswagen ID.X hot hatch, which has been confirmed for production.
Rumoured to produce 245kW – around 96kW more than the most powerful ID.3 and 20kW more than the ID.4 GTX – the new ID.X is claimed to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 5.3 seconds.
New chassis tech specially developed for the Volkswagen ID.X includes a drift mode.
It’s not known if the production ID.X will manage to match the concept’s aggressive weight-saving measures that saw it carve an impressive 200kg from the production car’s kerb weight.
Primed to go on sale in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2023, the updated Volkswagen ID.3 is finally expected to land in Australia in 2024, where the cheapest rear-drive version is tipped to be priced below $50,000.
Launching before the cheapest ID.3 will be the ID.4 and ID.5 mid-size electric SUVs that are expected to arrive in the final quarter of this year.
