The release date of the 2023 Subaru Solterra EV will be in mid-2022. In addition to international markets, the Solterra will be available in the United States at dealerships nationwide.

How much does the 2023 Subaru Solterra cost?

Subaru did not yet release the price information of the 2023 Solterra. The Japanese automaker will likely announce the cost for each trim level closer to the launch date. However, like the 2022 Toyota bZ4X, the 2023 Subaru Solterra will likely have a starting price of around $37,000 MSRP. Additionally, with the federal EV tax credit, the cost of the Solterra could be lower for some car buyers.
Update: The starting price of the 2023 Subaru Solterra ranges from $44,995 MSRP for the Premium trim up to $51,995 MSRP for the Touring trim.
What does the Subaru Solterra name mean?
2023 Subaru Solterra EV | Subaru
According to Subaru, the name Solterra is a fusion of two Latin words: “sol” and “terra.” “Sol” means “sun” in Latin, and “terra” means earth. Do you want to drive the Subaru Solterra, also known as the “sun-earth” car?
Subaru Solterra electric motor specs: horsepower and acceleration
2023 Subaru Solterra EV | Subaru
The 2023 Solterra will make its U.S. debut on November 17, 2021, at the Los Angeles Auto Show. However, Subaru unveiled the Solterra this week for its global debut in Japan, where the crossover EV will be produced. At the unveiling in Japan, Subaru announced the Japanese specs for the Solterra. Many of the specs will likely be the same for the American version. Some things may change, though, such as making all-wheel drive standard for all American-spec models.
Like the Toyota bZ4X, the Solterra has a single electric motor for the front-drive model and dual-electric motors for the all-wheel drive model. The horsepower output is 201 hp for the single-motor FWD version and 215 hp for the dual-motor AWD version.

For acceleration, the Solterra is expected to have a 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) time of 7.1 seconds for the AWD model, just like the bZ4X. If you’re hoping for Tesla-like acceleration for your electric vehicle, this relatively slower acceleration time may leave you a little disappointed.
Driving range and charging for the Subaru Solterra
2023 Subaru Solterra EV | Subaru
At the global debut in Japan, Subaru listed the electric driving range of the Solterra as 330 miles for the front-wheel drive model and 290 miles for the all-wheel drive model. That’s interesting, for this driving range is considerably higher than what Totoya lists for the bZ4X. Toyota claims that the bZ4X has a 230-mile driving range for the FWD version and a 200-mile range for the AWD drive version.
However, the different driving ranges are likely due to differences in testing procedures. Once the American-spec Solterra is released, the range figures may change and end up being the same as the bZ4X. Also, like the bZ4X, the Solterra will be able to reach an 80% charge in 30 minutes when using a DC fast charging station.
What are the Subaru Solterra X-mode and Grip Control features?
2023 Subaru Solterra EV | Subaru
As mentioned earlier, the American version of the Solterra EV may have standard all-wheel drive. This makes sense, for Subaru, with its outdoors-focused vehicles, has standard all-wheel drive for all of its models in the U.S. The one exception is the Subaru BRZ. The Solterra will also have an “X-mode” for driving in slippery conditions and on uneven terrain, as well as a “Grip Control” for more hardcore off-road action.
