The Ford Maverick’s compact size makes it a good fit for city life, as we can attest with our long-term Best of the Year 2022 winner, but the newly available Tremor Off-Road Package could motivate shoppers to escape city traffic and hit unpaved trails instead. Already offered on the Ranger, F-150 and F-Series Super Duty, the Tremor now trickles down to Ford’s smallest and most affordable pickup.
The Tremor package will be an add-on for the 2023 Maverick XLT and Lariat, and it promises to be a step up from the Maverick’s current off-road-oriented FX4. In addition to enhancing the pickup’s off-road prowess, the package adds exterior and interior bits to set it apart visually.
Off-Road Offerings

The Tremor Off-Road Package adds a more advanced all-wheel-drive system shared with the Bronco Sport. According to Ford, the twin-clutch rear-drive differential system is able to send nearly all rear-axle torque to either wheel for improved traction off-road. It comes with five driver-selectable modes: Pavement, Mud, Sand, Snow and Towing. Just like the FX4, Tremor-equipped Mavericks ride on 17-inch wheels with standard all-terrain tires.
Another feature bundled into the Maverick’s Tremor package is Trail Control, an off-road cruise control system designed for mud and dirt. The system allows drivers to preselect a set speed to automatically control acceleration and braking while the driver simply steers.
Still, the Tremor is only available with the Maverick’s optional turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine; the 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid is not available. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the EcoBoost produces 250 horsepower and 277 pounds-feet of torque. According to the automaker, the Maverick Tremor’s towing capacity is rated at 2,000 pounds (standard for most Mavericks) and payload at 1,200 pounds (down from 1,500 in other Mavericks).
The Tremor Uniform

In addition to improved off-road performance, the Tremor package adds adventure-oriented visual cues that set it apart in the Maverick lineup. An exclusive grille design, lower front end with an improved approach angle and standard skid plates are part of the look. And if black badging and orange tow hooks aren’t enough to announce the Tremor’s presence, an optional Tremor Appearance Package tacks on a carbonized gray-painted roof, matching mirror caps, and black graphics on the hood and lower body are also available.

The Tremor’s color theme extends to the pickup’s interior: Black seats, orange contrast stitching and Tremor logos are found on the head restraints. Additional orange and black accents are incorporated into the center console, vents and door pulls.
Pricing and Release Date
Ford says production for the 2023 Maverick will begin in the fall, and shoppers will be able to order the pickup starting in September. The Tremor Off-Road Package adds $2,995 to the price of the XLT and Lariat trims; the Tremor Appearance Package is an extra $1,495.
The automaker has not yet announced pricing for the 2023 Maverick, but the 2022 Maverick XLT with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine currently starts at $25,290, while the Lariat at $28,790.
