Facelifted 2022 Volkswagen Virtus has officially entered the Indian car market. Launched four years after its unveiling, the refreshed sedan replaces the previously on sale Vento. The launch coincides with the entry of the Skoda Slavia in the Indian market. It is pertinent to note that both Virtus and Slavia are based on the made-for-India MQB A0 IN platform.
The Virtus stands 4,561 mm long, 1,752 mm wide, and 1,507 mm tall. The wheelbase, on the other hand, is 2,651 mm. Ditching the title of an ‘elongated Polo’, the 2022 Volkswagen Virtus now carries a distinct design language. A new front-end, which houses a revamped bumper, wider lower intakes, and several chrome accents, gives the sedan a reinvigorated appeal. A new pair of LED headlamps, which flank a single-slat grille, complete the front fascia of the Virtus.
Available in as many as six finishes – Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Carbon Steel Grey, Curcuma Yellow, Reflex Silver, and Rising Blue Metallic – the 2022 Volkswagen Virtus also flaunts a revisited rear bumper, faux exhaust pipes, and stylish alloy wheels.
On the inside, the Virtus gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging pad, ventilated front seats, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and other modern-day features for the users’ convenience. Not to forget, the German sedan also comes with a sunroof.
Two engine options are available with the 2022 Volkswagen Virtus. The first one 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder is tuned to produce 115 PS of maximum power, while the other is a 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder that makes 150 PS. A 6-speed manual can be mated to both engines. A 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed DSG are the other two transmissions on offer with the smaller and the bigger engine, respectively.
Six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold assist, and other safety features are present on the sedan. The 2022 Volkswagen Virtus will tussle with the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and its cousin Slavia in the Indian market. As for the pricing, that’s something Volkswagen has saved for later.
