The Peugeot 208 2022 makes its premiere in the news. Despite the fact that the Leon brand utility will be updated in the coming months and will be available in 2023, the French company has opted to upgrade some interior aspects. A key element that raises the cache of what is now the brand’s smallest model, and with a more technological aspect that we shall discuss further below.
Between the previous and current generations of the Peugeot 208, there was a significant shift in all parts of the car, not only the design. The Leon brand has emerged from a serious design crisis, having been drowned in a new language that has been applied to its most recent items.
The utility vehicle has become a flagship in the Italian market, where it sold 30,000 units in 2021, bringing the total number of units sold to slightly over 65,000 since its inception.
The French company has opted to make a little change to the model’s interior, initially just in the Italian market, but it is envisaged that this will be expanded to the rest of Europe in the coming months. For the time being, the enhancement is limited to mechanical variants of the 208 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A touch that adds cache and sportiness to a technologically advanced interior.
In Italy, the Peugeot 208 2022 has an extra cache.
A new selector known as “e-toggle” has taken the role of the traditional gear lever. A little lever with an elegant and minimalist design inherited from its older brother that allows the driver to select one of the gears with just one finger, freeing up space in the transmission tunnel and resulting in a cleaner, more appealing, and sophisticated appearance.
The new automatic transmission selection is placed in a space surrounded by a set of buttons for the gearbox’s various positions, as well as a compact and short surface that supports the wrist rather than the arm.
As a result, this new feature will only be present in particular 208 models. The EAT8 transmission is only available with the PureTech version of 100 and 130 CV and in combination with the “Active Pack,” “Allure,” “Allure Pack,” “GT,” and “GT Pack” finishes in the gasoline offer, as the company has removed this option from diesels.
A feature that will not be available in the Peugeot e-208’s zero-emission variant. At least, the manufacturer’s Italian branch has not mentioned this electric utility vehicle, which will remain unchanged until it receives the aforementioned facelift, as well as combustion choices.
In mid-2023, the two models will get a new exterior and interior look, as well as a number of mechanical upgrades, with the goal of increasing efficiency.
The electric versions of the Peugeot 208 and 2008 will have a higher WLTP range of up to 22 kilometers starting in 2022. Changes to the software, as well as the hardware, make this possible.
The Peugeot e-208 has a combined WLTP range of up to 362 kilometers, whereas the Peugeot e-2008 has a range of up to 342 kilometers, a difference of 22 kilometers. As Stellantis points out, there should be even more in everyday life – at temperatures “near to zero degrees Celsius,” up to 40 kilometers more in city traffic could be doable.
The drive’s major parameters remain unchanged, including the Vitesco 100 kW electric motor and the 50 kWh battery. Nonetheless, there is a new feature in the drive: A new gear ratio, based on traditional mechanics, is intended to optimize the range for “road and highway driving.”
Another easy solution is changed tires upon delivery: in the future, the tires on the e-208’s 16-inch aluminum rims and the e-2008’s 17-inch aluminum rims will be of quality class A+. Because of their lower rolling resistance, they are more efficient.
The third metric is already more focused on e-mobility: Not only will a new heat pump be installed beginning in 2022, but it will also be paired with a moisture sensor mounted on the top of the windshield.
Not only should the heat pump be more efficient, but the software can also use the sensor’s data to improve heating and air conditioning control.
Above all, according to Stellantis, the circulating air in the interior should be adequately documented and managed. “This reduces the battery’s energy usage when heating and guarantees that the vehicle’s interior temperature is maintained,” it explains. “When the outside temperatures are low, this improvement is especially obvious.”
The letter does not specify how much the specific measures contribute to the increased reach.
A retrofit for the more than 90,000 vehicles made of the two models is also not addressed, but given the large inputs – such as the translation – it is quite doubtful.
The new model year’s measures are not unique to Peugeot: DS Automobiles recently announced that the range of their all-electric DS 3 Crossback E-Tense has been extended. The WLTP range increases by about 7% to up to 341 kilometers here. The same modifications are listed by DS, but he occasionally expresses them in a more verbose manner.
According to the new transmission ratio, “the ratio has also been perfected in order to increase the efficiency of the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense as a consequence of continued development and constant dialogue with the Formula E team supported by DS Performance.”
In mid-2023, the two models will get a new exterior and interior look, as well as a number of mechanical upgrades, with the goal of increasing efficiency.
