Consumer Reports has issued its verdict, and the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage is simply not a good car. The best thing about the Mirage is it’s cheap. But otherwise, it suffers from a long list of issues that make this subcompact car a dud. However, although the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage is bad for many reasons, Consumer Reports actually rated a popular SUV even worse.
Why is the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage a bad car?
2020 Mitsubishi Mirage | Mitsubishi Motors
Consumer Reports gave the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage an overall score of only 33 out of 100, putting the subcompact in last place in its segment. Its predicted owner satisfaction rating is a low 2 out of 5, but its reliability is OK, at 3 out of 5. But where the Mirage really fails is its road test. Here, this mini Mitsubishi scored only 29 out of 100.
That isn’t surprising because the Mirage has a weak engine. It’s a 1.2-liter three-cylinder, making only 78 hp. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a leisurely 12.1 seconds. On top of that, Mitsubishi didn’t give the Mirage much else to work with. Its interior is small and lacks many features, it doesn’t handle well, and the cabin is quite loud. Though the Mirage has a few good safety features, that’s about it.
Surprisingly, the 2022 Jeep Wrangler is even worse, according to Consumer Reports
Many Mitsubishi Mirage owners may hate their car, but it isn’t actually the worst among new models, according to Consumer Reports. That distinction goes to the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. Its overall score is even lower than the Mirage’s at just 28 out of 100. Its reliability score is only 2 out of 5. But its road test score is a bit better than the Mirage’s — the Wrangler got 36 out of 100 there.
Unsurprisingly, however, the 2022 Wrangler boasts a good predicted owner satisfaction score of 4 out of 5. That’s likely because Jeep fans don’t really pay attention to the critics and love their Jeep vehicles unconditionally. Regardless, the Wrangler still isn’t a good SUV, and it mainly suffers because of its uncomfortable interior.
Riders generally hear plenty of wind noise, the ride quality is poor, and getting in and out can be awkward. But the Wrangler excels at what Jeep designed it to excel at: It still off-roads well. It’s just not that comfortable when it’s not off-roading.
The 2022 Fiat 500X is a bit better, but it’s still bad in Consumer Reports’ eyes

Though the Jeep Wrangler is the worst in terms of overall scoring, another car is almost as bad. The 2022 Fiat 500X is by no means a good car. Consumer Reports gave it an overall score of 37 out of 100, and that was largely thanks to the 500X’s decent road-test score.
On the road test, the 500X scored a 50 out of 100, which isn’t great, but it’s better than the Wrangler and Mirage. However, the 2022 500X’s predicted reliability and owner satisfaction scores sank this subcompact SUV. It received only a 2 out of 5 for predicted reliability and 1 out of 5 for predicted owner satisfaction.
Owners aren’t satisfied with their 500Xs for many reasons. They include poor ride quality, uncomfortable seats, and a noisy interior. So although the 2022 Fiat 500X scored better overall, few owners enjoy driving it.
