MG Motor India reveals the upcoming 2022 ZS EV electric SUV ahead of its launch. The new facelifted ZS EV feature changes inside and out. The changes are not just cosmetic but the electric powertrain also sees a jump in range.
2022 MG ZS EV Electric Powertrain Changes
The outgoing electric SUV features a 44.5kWh battery pack featuring a claimed driving range of 418KM per charge. The new ZS EV is expected to feature a larger 51kWh battery pack that could offer an enhanced driving range of 480KM per charge.
The current ZS EV’s electric powertrain produces 141bhp and 353Nm with the electric motor mounted on the front axle of the car. However, it remains to be seen if the larger battery pack will influence any change in power output from the new electric powertrain on the facelifted ZS EV.
2022 MG ZS EV Exterior Changes
The facelifted MG ZS EV revealed in India features similar exterior changes as the international-spec model that is already on sale in global markets. This includes sharper LED headlamps and taillamps with new LED DRLs, updated front bumper and rear bumpers, new body-coloured grille.
This includes the new charge door that sits on the new grille placed in an offset position next to the MG logo. The side profile of the new electric SUV remains mostly unchanged and features a new 17-inch alloy wheel design.
2022 MG ZS EV Interior & Feature Changes
The interiors of the ZS EV is yet to be revealed by the company. However, the spy shots of the new MG ZS EV seems to borrow inspiration from the recently launched Astor mid-size SUV. The dashboard of the ZS EV will be similar to the outgoing model with new features added to the list.
This includes a new larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and the brand’s AI-assisted connected technology. The infotainment is also expected to be smarter with added features supporting the use of the EV.
The instrument cluster on the facelifted SUV will be a new 7.0-inch digital unit. However, the biggest addition to the new SUV is expected to be the ADAS functions borrowed from the Astor. We also spotted the front, rear and side cameras to support active driver assistance features. This includes:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
- AEB for pedestrian obstruction
- Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)
- Speed Assist System – Warning Mode
- Speed Assist System – Intelligent Mode
- Speed Assist System – Manual Mode
- Rear Drive Assist – Cross Traffic Alert
- Rear Drive Assist – Lane Change Alert
- Rear Drive Assist – Blind Spot Detection
Also, the overall fit and finish of the new ZS EV are expected to increase for a more premium and up-market feel. This includes a new climate control unit, and carbon fibre-like trim on the dashboard; among others.
2022 MG ZS EV India Launch & Price
The MG ZS EV is expected to launch within a few weeks with pre-bookings being accepted unofficially at select dealerships in India. The outgoing electric SUV retails between Rs 21.49 lakh and Rs 25.18 lakh (ex-showroom, India). With all the new changes, we expect a slight increase in pricing for the facelifted model.
Thoughts About The 2022 MG ZS EV
The MG ZS EV has no direct segment rivals. However, EV buyers in India do consider the ZS EV against the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Tata Nexon EV, which are priced much lower and offer a lesser electric driving range. The 2022 ZS EV will have an improved range and feature resulting in a much better package.
