MG Motor India has finally launched the much-awaited MG ZS EV electric SUV in India. Prices for the updated MG ZS EV starts from Rs 21.99 Lakh (ex-showroom, India).
According to MG Motors, the MG ZS EV owners have saved approximately 70 Lakh kilograms of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to planting 42,000 trees. That being said, in order to attract more consumers to adopt EV, MG Motors has launched the updated version of the MG ZS EV in India.
Exterior
Starting with the front-end, the latest updates on the front of the new 2022 MG ZS EV makes the EV look more in line with the design of the recently introduced MG Astor SUV.
For this, MG has borrowed the headlights from the MG Astor and a new completely sealed-off front grille has been given. To compensate for this, a new bumper with different air intakes have also been incorporated, giving the EV much more aerodynamically efficient looks.
Moving on to the sides, despite the update, the new updated MG ZS EV retains its original silhouette. However, designers at MG have made subtle changes to the sides like the inclusion of door cladding and new alloy wheels.
Moving to the rear, the first major change is the updated new LED taillamps. This gives the 2022 MG ZS EV more sophisticated looks. Complimenting this change is the new updated rear bumper.
Interior
Moving inside the new MG ZS EV, one can see that the Interior has been significantly updated and MG says that the rear seat comfort has also been increased.
The biggest change on the interior is the inclusion of the new larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with added features and an updated layout of menus that are much more ergonomic than the previous version.
Apart from that, the new updated MG ZS EV also gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster with an embedded LCD screen and a large panoramic sunroof. The latter, really helps the cabin feel airy and spacious.
Features
When a vehicle is updated, one of the biggest changes on the updated model will be its feature list, and the new MG ZS EV is no different.
The new 2022 MG ZS EV gets 75 connected car features along with the larger 10.1 touchscreen infotainment unit with better graphics and menu layout. The new infotainment also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity for added convenience.
In addition to that, the new MG ZS EV also features on-demand in-car services and subscriptions as part of the company’s Car-as-a-Platform (CAAP) vision. This includes services and subscription packages such as MapMyIndia, Park+, Jio, and Shortpedia.
One of the more noteworthy features of the new MG ZS EV is the new digital key function that allows users to use their phone as a key using Bluetooth and drive without requiring the physical key in certain conditions.
Apart from that, the facelifted version of the MG ZS EV also comes with a i-SMART app to remotely control various functions of the car such as lock/unlock doors, control air conditioning, live location sharing and much more. The new system in the 2022 MG ZS EV can also recognise over 100 commands that can be used to control various functions such as AC, Sunroof, Navigation, etc.
In addition to all these features, the updated MG ZS EV also comes with features such as a 360-degree surround-view camera, 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, electronic parking brake with auto hold, heated ORVMs, cruise control, drive modes, etc.
Powertrain
One of the biggest changes in the new MG ZS EV is its updated powertrain. As part of the update, the EV now sports a larger 50.3kWh battery pack which is almost 6kWh larger than the battery pack in the previous model.
Apart from that, the new MG ZS EV also gets a more powerful yet efficient 173.6bhp electric motor with 280Nm of torque. This updated powertrain enables the electric SUV to hit 100km/h from a standstill in just 8.5 seconds and deliver a maximum range of 461kms on a single full charge.
The new battery pack is now IP69K, ASIL-D, and UL2580 rated – Making it more durable than the previous version. Also, the charging port on the updated model now gets a four-stage LED indicator that shows the charging status of the above-mentioned battery pack in the car.
Safety
In terms of safety, MG has not made any cost cuttings and comes well-equipped with the inclusion of safety features such as 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Rear Disc Brakes, Reverse Parking Camera with dynamic lines, etc.
Variants & Pricing
The new 2022 MG ZS EV is available in two trim levels – Excite and Exclusive. The Excite is the base variant and is priced at Rs 21.99 Lakh (ex-showroom, India). However, this model will be made available only from July 2022. The next model is the MG ZS EV Exclusive is the top-end variant and it is priced at Rs 25.88 Lakh (ex-showroom, India).
