- Updated EV now priced at $46,990
- Two variants on offer from launch
- Available in July
The 2022 MG ZS EV facelift has been revealed today, sporting a new look inside and out in addition to a more efficient powertrain for when it arrives in July this year – but at a cost.
At launch buyers will be able to choose from two variants – the entry-level Excite or the range-topping Essence.
“Australian and New Zealand customers appreciate that the MG ZS EV is leading the way in affordable EV motoring,” said MG Motor Australia and New Zealand CEO Peter Ciao.
“We trust that our new ZS EV will grow that legacy.
“It offers more technology at a price that will allow everyday Australians to switch to electric motoring without compromise.
“It is the next step in MG Motor’s journey of making EV easy for everyone.”
Pricing
Currently Australia’s best-selling electric SUV will go on sale from $46,990 drive-away for the base variant Excite – $2000 more than its current asking price – while the Essence will cost $49,990 drive-away.
As a result it will be undercut by the new kid in town and fellow Chinese-made BYD Atto 3, which will go for $44,990 in some states and territories when it too arrives in July.
Prospective buyers will need to head to MG’s website to snap up one just 500 vehicles available in the initial run, as well as $500 off the cost of an MG ChargeHub. According to a spokesperson for the brand, the current model is sold out and as such was recently removed from its website.
Features
Both the 2022 MG ZS EV Excite and Essence grades will feature a 7-inch virtual digital instrument cluster and a brand-new floating 10.1-inch infotainment screen.
The exterior has been redesigned from the 2021 model with 21-module LED auto-dimming headlights and nine-module LED tail-lights, milled 17-inch alloy rims and a unique grille-less front visage rounding out the highlights of the update.
The new MG ZS EV Excite features as standard:
17-inch milled alloy rims |
LED headlights and tail-lights |
Reversing camera |
MG Pilot |
360-degree camera |
10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system |

In addition to features included on the Excite, the Essence has:

Powertrain, driving range and charging
Both variants will feature an all-new, high-specification 51kWh high-voltage battery that provides a claimed 320 kilometres of driving range, an updated electric motor and enhanced battery management electronics.
MG has yet to reveal more details of the new powertrain, though its 320km claim beats the old model’s 263km driving range, and the new battery is more powerful than the existing 44.5kWh unit.
The current electric motor is capable of producing 105kW of power and 353Nm of torque, so expect the “updated” unit to quote figures in excess of these.
Behind the revamped grille is an updated Type 2 charging port.
Safety
MG Pilot will provide the new ZS EV with a complete set of active driver safety aids, including;
Intelligent high beam control |
Autonomous emergency braking |
Adaptive cruise control |
Emergency lane keeping |
Speed assistance system and more. |
Warranty
The new ZS EV will be backed by a national network of MG Motor dealers and will be covered by MG’s seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, which also includes the high-voltage battery.
Availability
More detail will be revealed closer to the car’s local launch, but the model is expecting to arrive in Australian showrooms in July this year. Buyers can register their interest and put down a deposit on MG’s website now for one of the first 500 vehicles.
