Ford has revealed more details about its upcoming new-generation Ranger ute, including roof load limits and more.
The drip-feed of information continues and this time Ford is talking up the versatility of the new Ranger as a work and play vehicle.
According to the Blue Oval, the new Ranger’s tub has “best-in-class volume” of 1233 litres, and, as reported, the cargo box can now accommodate a standard European pallet which measures 1200mm x 800mm.
The roof of the Ranger features platform mounts which allow for the fitment of roof accessories like cargo boxes and the like. The Ranger can take a 350kg load on the roof when the car isn’t moving and that drops to 85kg when it’s on the move.
Another handy feature is the ‘zone lighting’ function. It combines the headlights, puddle lights, number plate and cargo box lights which illuminates a 360-degree area around the vehicle, or a specific area, Ford says.
It can be used to inspect the area around the ute at night and it is controlled by the vehicle’s multimedia setup or through thee FordPass smartphone app.
The lighting in the load box is useful for setting up camp at night.
As previously detailed, the tailgate doubles as a workbench with features like a pair of clamp pockets hidden by spring-loaded caps for securing materials like timber, as well as a built-in 10mm ruler.
The box has an internal rail with adjustable cleats on both sides of the box to better configure different loads. Plastic box top and tailgate capping protects top edge of the box from damage when loading heavy items.
An optional power roller shutter can be operated from a switch in the cargo box, via the instrument panel or by using the key fob. Accessory channels run down the sides of the shutter to allow for easier fitment of accessory mounts for bikes, kayaks or camping equipment.
Inside, Ford has redesigned the rear under-seat storage to make more room and to allow for ‘over-filling’ while still being able to put the seat back in its place. The rear seat-back also folds down for additional cargo space.
In collaboration with off-road accessories manufacturer ARB, the Ranger will be available with up to 600 accessories globally, depending on the market. There will be about 150 offered in Australia.
Wildtrak variants are available with an optional auxiliary switch bank that can be used to add in accessories like light bars and other electrical equipment.
The new Ford Ranger hits showrooms mid-year.
