The 2022 Ford e-Transit will be Ford Australia’s first electric vehicle when it goes on sale in mid-2022. Available exclusively in 420L rear-wheel drive long-wheelbase form, the e-Transit features a 68kWh battery pack that allows it to travel up to 317km on a charge (WLTP). With a peak power of 198kW and peak torque of 430Nm, the e-Transit will be comfortably the most potent Transit available in Australia. It will be the first fully-electrified vehicle in the Ford Australia stable, and will arrive just after the Ford Escape PHEV.

Under the body of the 2022 Ford e-Transit is a 68kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers up to 317km of range on the WLTP cycle. This battery pack is in tandem with a 198kW/430Nm electric motor that powers the rear wheels. The 2022 Ford e-Transit is capable of both AC and DC charging, and using a 115kW DC charging station will enable drivers to top up their battery from 15 to 80 per cent in as little as 34 minutes – a lunch break, according to Ford.
According to Ford, the 2022 Ford e-Transit offers unchanged practicality from the regular Transit. Despite a big battery pack, its load floor has only risen 3cm compared with the regular model and there’s also a new independent rear suspension system. Cargo capacity is up to 11.3 cubic metres in the mid-roof spec, while the high-roof model will offer 12.4 cubic metres. A gross vehicle mass (GVM) of up to 4.2 tonnes will be offered, along with a targeted payload of 1,616kg.
The 2022 Ford e-Transit will be the first product in Australia to feature Ford’s new ‘SYNC4‘ infotainment system, which features a new processor with more than twice the power of the current ‘SYNC3’ system. It will be projected onto a huge 12-inch screen that will be standard on the e-Transit.
Being the top-spec model in the Transit range, the 2022 Ford e-Transit will offer a full range of active safety equipment, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and driver attention monitoring. Full specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the e-Transit’s mid-2022 Australian release date.
