The Munich based luxury automaker BMW recently launched the third generation of its highly successful SUV X3 in India at the ex-showroom price of Rs 59.9 lakh. The Premium mid-size Sports Activity Vehicle’s (SAV) newest iteration has made its India debut with a single option of a petrol engine that will be available in two variants. The first of which will be a base SportX Plus variant and the other will be the top M sport variant.
BMW has given the new X3 some updates to bring the long-running SUV to the 2022 spec and these updates can be noticed in the overall design, features, equipment, infotainment and technology. During the launch of the new X3 Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “The new evolved third-generation BMW X3 is here to continue the model’s trailblazing success in the premium mid-size SAV segment. The refreshed design and driving performance make BMW X3 a luxurious and practical car that is agile on and off-road. You will experience the unbeatable thrill and joy of a distinctive combination of powerful drive, sporty dynamics and comfort. With its independence and individuality, the new X3 packs in unlimited action and is meant for Everything x Everywhere.”
On the outside, the updated facelift of the 2022 X3 gets a larger double kidney grille which is now connected rather than being separate. The front end of the SUV has been tweaked subtly to align it with its elder siblings like the X5 and X7’s look and in addition, the SUV now features a pair of sleeker headlights with new L-shaped LED detailing. The front bumper of the vehicle has now been made a little more angular to furnish a rather aggressive styling.
While the side profile of the SUV remains rather unchanged, the rear is where the restyling has taken place. The rear end of the X3 now features slimmer LED taillamps with dark highlights along with two vents just underneath them. The aggressive and angular approach from the front of the vehicle has been carried till the back end as well and a new rear bumper with blacked-out diffuser along with dual rectangular exhaust tips can be seen.
Coming on to the interior of the new X3 a similar layout like most of the other 2022 BMWs is the predominant sight. The usage of high-quality leather with wood and brushed aluminium gives the X3 a very modern feel with sensational class and opulence. While in terms of creature comforts the 2022 model gets a 3 zone climate control, revised central console, 12.5 inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment panel supporting the latest connectivity features. The X3 also gets a 464W Harman Kardon Surround Sound system 16 speakers with individually adjustable equalizing.
The M sport variant of the new X3 will feature the new sport seats with perforated upholstery, M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons and other M-specific interior trim bits. While on the safety front, the SUV will be equipped with features like Safety features include front side and curtain airbags, TPMS, ISOFIX child seat mounts, run-flat tyres, ESC and tractional. The M Sport trim gets a 360-degree camera instead of a single rear camera in the SportX Plus.
In terms of powertrain, the 2022 X3 will be offered with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol in their xDrive30i guise which will be able to produce a hefty 252PS and 350 Nm after being paired to an eight-speed ZF gearbox and BMW proprietary AWD system popularly known as the X drive. In addition, the SUV will feature the driving modes of Eco, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ along with adaptive dampers and a variable torque splitter to the rear wheels via electronic differential lockers in the M sport variant.
