Following the leak, the new BMW iX M60 2022 will make its formal premiere. BMW M Performance’s first electric SUV is already a reality. At CES 2022 in Las Vegas, the firm unveiled the top-of-the-line model. A model with more than 600 horsepower that will be available in Europe by the end of next year.
The first BMW iX models will arrive in stores soon, flooding the streets of major European cities. For sale, with pricing in the two variants accessible, one is lacking that will arrive at the conclusion of the newly launched year, placing the cherry on top of the electric SUV’s line.
The new BMW iX M60 has just been announced, and orders will be taken starting in June.
One of the big novelties of CES 2022, the famous electronics exhibition held in Las Vegas, was the second model that departed the grounds of M Performance. The iX M60 does not have the same amount of aggression as other high-performance BMW vehicles, but it is relatively understated in this category.
Only the M Performance sports package’s distinctive characteristics stand out, such as the 21-inch alloy wheels as standard – with 22 optional – both coated in black, the bronze highlights that continue through the bodywork, the painted brake calipers in blue, or the high-gloss black ‘M’ and ‘M60’ badges.
The BMW iX M60 is the range’s most powerful electric SUV.
Unlike the i4 M50, the German company has not bothered to give the front grill, bumpers, or external rear-view mirrors a new look, the latter being a feature that was imposed on all high-performance electrics but that has not been done on this model due to aerodynamics. The redesigned sports front seats with integrated headrests and, of course, the enormous curved “Live Cockpit Professional” screen, which retains its original size of 12.3 inches for instruments and 14.9 inches for entertainment.
Distinctive features such as the panoramic roof “Sky Lounge” or the superb surround sound system “Bowers & Wilkins Diamond,” as well as a set of special sounds for the required buzzer “BMW IconicSounds Electric,” are included as standard equipment.
The new iX M60 is based on the most powerful version currently available, the xDrive50, but with chassis tuning. The air suspension, as well as the electrically adaptable dampers, steering, brakes, anti-roll bars, and active rear axle steering, have all been fine-tuned to allow you to leave the corners with greater energy.
It has the fifth generation of “eDrive” technology under the hood, with two electric motors producing a maximum power of 619 HP and a maximum torque of 1,015 Nm, with the “My Mode Sport” function raising the torque to 1,100 Nm. lasting a few seconds with “Launch Control,” providing some of the functions listed below.
A large battery with a net capacity of 111.5 kWh has been installed between the axles, providing energy for a maximum range of 566 kilometers. The system may be recharged at a charging station with a power of 200 kW direct current, and it takes 10 minutes to get 150 kilometers of energy.
The BMW iX series is the company’s electric mobility fleet’s flagship. As a result, a M variant of the E-Crossover is only natural. The BMW iX M60, on the other hand, is a M performance variation, not a thoroughbred M, thus an iX M is more than possible. The Garching dynamic division’s self-image must already have enough performance where M is written on it, whether it actually performance or not. Especially given the BMW iX xDrive50’s maximum power output of 385 kW / 523 PS isn’t exactly light on the chest.
The BMW iX M60 has 1015 Newton meters of torque.
The BMW iX M60 is the first vehicle from the Munich-based automobile manufacturer to reach a four-digit number of 1015 Newton meters. There should be a maximum of 1,100 Nm available. The essential term here is “maximum,” which also refers to the 455 kW / 619 PS system output. However, this is a temporary boost that lasts up to 10 seconds. Aside from that, it’s up to 397 kW / 540 PS, which is still a big deal.
This implies that the 2.5-tonne e-cruiser can reach 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and can go up to 250 km/h, which is 50 km/h faster than the BMW iX50. The two electric motors are responsible for the BMW’s ability to reach these speeds without the need of technological trickery such as a two-speed gearbox. These are current-excited synchronous machines that, together with the power electronics and input gear, are enclosed in a housing.
The electric motor is fine-tuned.
Engineers have given the engine on the rear axle an e-tuning to do credit to the letter M. The e-machine features a six-phase operation with a twin inverter. This engine produces 360 kW / 489 PS at the rear axle and 190 kW / 258 PS at the front.
The all-wheel drive system is meant to be rear-heavy, with the front axle only cutting in when necessary. The air suspension will also have a specific M adjustment, but it won’t be too tight because the BMW iX50’s chassis is impressive and provides adequate comfort.
The energy comes from a 111.5 kilowatt-hour battery, just like the iX50 (net 105.2 kWh). The BMW iX M60 can go up to 566 kilometers on an average consumption of 21.7 to 24.7 kWh (WLTP).
Maximum charging power of 200 kW
At an alternating current connection, the batteries are charged to a maximum of 11 kW. It’s up to 200 kW using a direct current fast charger. This loading speed is adequate but not exceptional. The energy storage device should be fully charged from 10% to 80% in 35 minutes, and power may be refueled in ten minutes for a 150-kilometer range.
Adaptive recuperation, in addition to the most efficient feasible motor train design and enhanced aerodynamics, serves to expand the range. Because this technology modifies energy recovery to the current traffic scenario based on numerous inputs from sensors and navigation maps.
The M60 is a technology carrier, like the other iX versions. The stunning front also incorporates an eight-megapixel sensor that allows the E-SUV to view up to 300 meters. The Stromer’s strong body has five cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. As a result, the initial steps toward robo-driving are also feasible.
At the touch of a button, the driver may record a parking move and call it up; the BMW E-SUV will then automatically place itself in that position.
The cabin boasts all of the features found in the BMW iX50, including two curved displays measuring 12.3″ and 14.9″ and, luckily, the tried-and-true rotary push button in the center console, which reduces driver distraction greatly. From June 2022, dealers will be able to order the BMW iX M60, which will cost at least 130,200 euros, or 32,200 euros more than a BMW iX50 xDrive. For the sake of comparison, a Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo costs 2,586 euros more. A Tesla Model X will set you back at least 111,000 euros.
