2021 Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge Land Speed Collection design
It has one of the longest names in the world of new cars, but its inspiration is short and sweet. The 2021 Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge Land Speed Collection is inspired by the 1937 record of Captain George Eyston who’s Rolls-Royce V12 aero-engine powered him to a 312mph record. He managed to smash his own record, setting the bar at 357.5mph, again with Rolls-Royce power.
Various elements of the Land Speed car have been taken from this amazing story, including Bonneville Blue paint scheme and black details that hark back to the record-setting Thunderbolt car. Thunderbolt featured some bright yellow detailing to aid with photographic timing equipment, and so this Wraith also hosts some vivid flashes of colour.
2021 Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge Land Speed Collection interior and infotainment
The Wraith’s infotainment system remains identical to lesser cars, which is no bad thing as it’s based on BMW’s excellent iDrive operating system. This widescreen display is primarily controlled via an ergonomic dial that’s easy to use on the move.
Rolls-Royce made good use of their incredible craftspeople to create this bespoke cabin. In addition to the beautiful leather and plush materials, you’ll find various details that hark back to the record itself. The headliner features 2,117 fiberoptic stars that represent the constellations as they appeared on that very night in history. Its dashboard hosts a clock modeled on Thunderbolt’s gauges, and a wooden insert has been calved to feature the actual textured surface of the salt flats themselves.
2021 Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge Land Speed Collection practicality and boot space
Practicality is identical to the regular Wraith, meaning that this two-door coupe will happily accommodate four adults. Its boot at 470 litres is also plenty adequate.
2021 Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge Land Speed Collection Engine
The Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge Land Speed Collection is, as the name suggests, based on the most potent Black Badge model. That means it’s powered by a 6.6-litre V12 engine, a unit capable of producing 624bhp and 870Nm of torque.
While elegant and opulent in nature, such performance figures are the gateway to a 0-62mph run in just 4.5 seconds.
