With the DTM series complete, Audi celebrates the year’s successes with a new car. The new AUDI A4 DTM edition, which was developed by quattro GmbH, is yet another reminder that Audi won all three titles this year.
The model is targetting those customers who want to more than a standard model, a car which sits inbetween the A4 and S4. The new DTM Edition includes a new 2.0 turbocharged FSI motor with power increased from 200 to 220 HP, or 280 to 300 Nm. Similar to the S Line chassis, quattro GmbH has lowered the car by 20 millimeters, at the same time utilizing lower and firmer springs. The A4 DTM edition stands on new 18 multi-spoke wheels, which borrow their style from the DTM racing car. The front brakes are also drilled, just as in the series.
Starting with the new A4 sedan, this special model is more striking. Outwardly, the A4 is distinguished by several features inclusing DTM signature plaques which adorn the sides and the rear of the car. The single, large radiator apature is finished in phantom black, as is the bumper and the side mirrors. Additional air intakes accent the front and the rear. A new rear bumper and carbon fiber spoiler lip help differentiate the A4 DTM edition at the rear as do larger which extend through a race-derived diffuser.
The interior of the vehicle can best be described as sporty elegance. The door sills, as well as the floor mats include the DTM logo and silver piping. The seats follow the same same theme and are sourced from Recaro. Alcantara covers the 3-spoke sport steering wheel, the shifter, handbrake and seats. Carbon fibre interior trim is also borrowed from the Audi S4.
The Audi A4 DTM edition comes standard with xenon lights, automatic climate control, fullsize front airbags, side and head airbags and the most recent generation ESP.
This year’s DTM season was triumphant for Audi. Audi won all three titles, in its first year of participation, and in a new car. Mattias Ekstroem secured the driver’s title, Abt won the team championship and Audi won the manufacturer’s title.
The model on display at the Essen show is a design study, but sales are planned for the start of the 2005 DTM season.
