There’s not much difference between the 2022 Subaru Legacy and the 2023 model. But that didn’t matter in the eyes of some critics. Consumer Reports gave both models high scores and a well-deserved recommendation. Despite this, two areas still stand out for all the wrong reasons.

Many of us have become spoiled by having to merely turn a dial or press one button to adjust the climate control. You can forget that when it comes to the 2023 Subaru Legacy.
According to Consumer Reports, you’ll need to flip through multiple screens to find the climate controls, including adjusting the airflow and temperature.
While this would be annoying if you only had to do it once or twice, the settings reset every time the engine switches off, so you’ll need to spend precious time doing this every time you crank up the car. It’s a minor complaint, but it’s also one that can get on your nerves, especially if you’re in a hurry.

This wasn’t a big deal compared to the frustrating nature of the climate controls, but Consumer Reports still thought it was worth pointing out. It’s also important to note that this is for only the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. So what’s the deal with it?
The noise level is just fine when driving at a more sedate pace. It can become rather loud when you begin to accelerate quickly, however. However, this is easy enough to ignore with your favorite playlist blasting through the speakers.

Even though the engine noise and climate controls are less than stellar, there’s still plenty to love about the 2023 Subaru Legacy. According to Consumer Reports, the ride and transmission were especially worthy of praise, but there are other areas that stand out.
One area Consumer Reports couldn’t gush enough about was the ride quality. In fact, the review site stated, “The Legacy’s ride is superb. It easily mops up just about any pavement flaw, feeling as plush as a luxury car. We marveled at the Legacy’s ability to filter out bumps, control side-to-side body motions, and keep passengers virtually unaware of all but the most egregious road imperfections.”
Consumer Reports was also impressed with the 2023 Subaru Legacy’s transmission and heaped it with praise. One of the features that the review site enjoyed was the fact that you can feel the shift of the gears, even though it’s not doing so since it’s a CVT.
The trunk space was also something that the review site found especially stellar for this class. The trunk was described as being “tall and wide.” This is something that many vehicles in this class are often criticized for lacking, so this was a great design move by Subaru.
Something else that made the trunk stand out was that the trunk hinges have self-contained pockets that they slip into. Those who have experienced the frustration of having their bread crushed as the lid closes on the trunk will understand just how nice this feature is.
Finally, Consumer Reports was pleased that installing car seats was so easy. It’s possible to install three car seats in the back, making the 2023 Subaru Legacy a worthy family vehicle.
