BMW has been releasing even more dialed-up versions of its M-cars, in CS form, to high-acclaim recently.
The announcement of the BMW M5 CS, however, has left petrolheads salivating.
It will join the limited-run BMW M2 CS (R1,650,000) which is currently available, and the soon-to-be-released BMW M3 CS and BMW M4 CS – which are finding their ways to South African showrooms right now.
The M5 CS borrows much of CS recipe of top-tier performance enhancements, and lightness, but dials it up a couple notches – resulting in a car worthy of being on the highest rung of the BMW M ladder.
These are the 12 things you need to know about the new BMW M5 CS.
1. It’s BMW’s most powerful M car.
The 4.4-litre V8 engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology develops 467kW and 750Nm – 7kW more than the M5 Competition.
2. It will accelerate to 200km/h in 10 seconds.
0-100km/h is achieved in just 3 seconds and 200km/h in 10.3 seconds.
3. BMW shed 70kg from the weight of the BMW M5 Competition.
It achieved this through extensive use of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic on the roof, bonnet, mirrors and numerous other exposed carbon parts.
4. The front wheels can be disengaged from the all-wheel drive system.
This gives it true rear-wheel lunacy for those who can handle it.
The all-wheel-drive assistance can also be adjusted in stages. Drivers can set the system up to their heart’s desire, with a profile tuned to completing laps on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
5. It’s a true blend of track car and sports sedan.
The front seats are bespoke M Carbon bucket seats, while rear passengers also get individual bucket seats.
6. It is delivered with Pirelli P Zero Corsa track tyres.
275/35 R20 on the front and 285/35 R20 on the rear.
7. A 12.3-inch display makes it easy to control the car’s dynamic systems.
A heads-up display also keeps performance dials in close view when things get a little “white knuckle”.
8. BMW M’s sporting heritage is recognised.
This is seen throughout, but especially in the laser headlights – which illuminate yellow instead of white, which brings GT racing cars to mind.
9. It has carbon-ceramic brakes as standard.
These are 23kg lighter than the brakes on the BMW M5 Competition.
10. It will only be available in three colours.
Brands Hatch Grey or two BMW Individual matt paint finishes, namely Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic and Frozen Deep Green metallic.
11. Only 5 will be made available to South Africa.
They are coming in Q3 2021 and are probably all spoken for.
12. It is priced at €180,400.
At the current exchange rate, that’s approximately R3.4 million.
