Jag calls the I-Pace the world's first all-electric performance SUV, though Tesla and the Model X might beg to differ.
Jaguar’s giving it’s award-winning I-Pace electric crossover a refresh for 2021 that’ll give it new driver assistance tech, faster charging at home, and an improved cabin filter system that can clean the air before you even get in to go for a drive.
Jag calls the I-Pace the world’s first all-electric performance SUV, though Tesla and the Model X might beg to differ, but even after just a couple of years on the market, the automaker knows that when it comes to EVs, the moss can grow under you more quickly than with a more conventional car. The new hotness is the best.
It starts with a modest change, a switch to Jaguar Land Rover’s new Pivi Pro infotainment system on a 12.3-inch instrument cluster display and 10.0 and 5.0-inch secondary screens. Debuting in the Land Rover Defender, it’s quicker and more responsive than before, and in this one, it has special EV nav data to show you nearby charging stations and if they’re free. Some markets will even have costs and charge times.
New graphics on the screen are designed to make battery charge state clearer and the predictive range is set to be more consistent and better reflect your driving. There’s a new optional wireless charging pad for your phone, too.
An 11 kW on-board charger is now standard, boosting at-home charging to as much as 53 km of range (WLTP cycle range) per hour and cutting a full charge to just 8.6 hours. That’s down from 12.6 hours on the old 7 kW charger. Plug into a 50 kW fast charger to get 63 km in 15 minutes, or find a 100 kW charger to get 127 km in the same time.
For occupants, the cabin air ionizer now has PM2.5 filtration, meaning it’ll stop particles as small as 2.5 micrometres. The cabin air system can be set to come on before you set off, filtering the air before you even open the doors.
A new ClearSight rear-view mirror swaps to a screen displaying feed from a camera in the back, letting you see “through” passengers or cargo. The Meridian audio system adds two speakers to the headliner for an improved sound experience. The infotainment, battery management, and charging software can now be updated remotely over the air.
Jaguar has fitted a new grey grille finish as part of a Bright Pack that also has a chrome grille surround and grey mirror caps and rear diffuser. New paint colours are offered and the wheels have been redesigned with more choices including a new 19-inch option. Jaguar Land Rover didn’t say when the 2021 model might arrive here or if there would be a price change.
