Are you interested in purchasing a brand new Cadillac? The automaker’s lineup is filled with excellent options. However, one critic only believes one model is worth the cash. Consumer Reports only recommends one Cadillac model for 2022. It’s the smaller Cadillac XT5 SUV, not the Escalade.
Consumer Reports only recommends the 2022 Cadillac XT5.
2022 Cadillac XT5 | Cadillac
Of the six Cadillac models Consumer Reports tested for 2022, it only recommends buying the XT5 SUV. Moreover, the luxury SUV scored 82 out of 100 overall. Most notably, the XT5 excelled where many other models from the automaker suffered. Simply put, the SUV received a perfect predicted reliability rating from CR. Based on previous model years, predicted reliability is excellent, considering the SUV that’s been around since 2017 has only had a few significant issues. More notably, for 2019 and 2020, overall reliability is excellent across the board.
While nothing is terrible in CR’s XT5 review, a few things stand out. Firstly, CR gave the interior fit and finish a perfect score. That’s how high-quality the interior is and the build quality. Some models fall apart to the touch and feel cheap on the inside. However, the XT5 provides the luxury experience most would hope for from a premium SUV. In the same vein, comfort is a well-scored category for the Cadillac model. Not only is the interior put together like a true luxury model, but it’s also comfortable for the driver and passengers as well.
Next, noise is another category scored perfectly by CR. According to the publication, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 produced a very low noise level in the cabin. Moreover, the interior ride experience is luxurious thanks to great comfortability and a nearly silent ride.
Only one other Cadillac model scored above 60 out of 100
2022 Cadillac XT6 | Cadillac
The only other Cadillac model to score more than a 60 out of 100 from Consumer Reports is one step above the XT5. Furthermore, the 2022 Cadillac XT6 excels in different areas than its smaller sibling. For example, the XT6 scored very high on CR’s road test. However, its predicted reliability is far below average, with a 2 out of 5 score. Next, just about every other category is at least slightly worse than the XT5. Interior fit and finish, comfort, and even predicted owner satisfaction fall short.
Similarly, the XT6 scored well for tuning out the noise inside the cabin. In addition, the driving experience and comfort are well-rated. Both the XT6 and XT5 did not do well in fuel economy. Cadillac’s larger SUV gets 18 mpg combined, and the smaller XT5 model just 20 mpg. In many ways, they’re the same, but the XT5 proved itself to be just a little better.
Other Consumer Reports tested Cadillac models are not recommended.
In short, Consumer Reports does not recommend buying the other four Cadillac models it tested. These include the XT4, Escalade, CT4, and CT5. Out of them, the Escalade received the highest score, with 60 out of 100. However, it only gets worse from there. Every Cadillac model scored a 1 or 2 out of 5 regarding predicted reliability. That’s the detriment to these vehicles. It’s challenging for a publication to recommend buying a car that will likely yield expensive maintenance results.
2022 Cadillac model | Consumer Reports overall score out of 100 |
XT5 | 82 |
XT6 | 69 |
Escalade | 60 |

The 2022 Cadillac XT5 is the best model
In conclusion, buying a vehicle relies heavily on reliability. Overall, most Cadillac models are unreliable and won’t last as long as many rivals. However, the XT5 SUV has proven to be a reliable option since its initial production began in 2017. Moreover, Consumer Reports only recommends one Cadillac model for 2022, and it’s the most historically reliable option.
