Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini is all set to reveal the facelifted version of its bestselling Urus SUV on the 21st of August.
As per a report by the Italian outlet Quattroroute, the news was revealed by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann at a round table conference with the Italian media. Winkelmann also revealed that the facelifted Urus would be unveiled at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The facelifted Urus will sport an updated fascia and recent reports have suggested that Lambo’s super SUV will arrive carrying less weight to match the nip and tuck. These reports also suggest that the facelifted Lamborghini Urus would offer more power from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. The current Urus is rated at 650bhp and 850Nm of peak torque.
The facelifted’s Urus’ diet and power upgrade are expected to help it take on the 697bhp Aston Martin DBX 707. The Aston Martin SUV is a tenth of a second quicker in the 0-100km/h sprint compared to the current Urus which hits 100km/h from standstill in 3.6 seconds. We expect the Urus’ diet & added power to help the Italian super SUV past its British rival in terms of acceleration.
The arrival of the facelifted SUV later this year is not the only change the Urus will undergo in the near future. Lamborghini is expected to launch a hybrid version of the Urus in the next two years.
The Urus hybrid is expected to use the same electrification setup seen on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid which adds an electric motor and battery pack to the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 setup. This hybrid setup will continue until the Urus goes electric sometime near the end of the decade.
The facelifted Urus will feature a more sanitized front end if the test mules seen in the wild are anything to go by. The updated Urus SUV looks set to drop all the styling cues that made the front end of the SUV look like a cheese grater.
In the meeting with the Italian automotive press corps, Winkelmann also revealed that Lamborghini was also working on advanced driver assistance systems for its future models. Winkelmann told the Italian media that Lamborghini also planned to add Level 4 driving aids by the start of the next decade.
Winkelmann stated that these autonomous driving aids would be seen in the next generation of the Urus or a in brand new fourth model.
Rumours about a fourth Lamborghini have been running wild for a while now and this is confirmation that the Italian bull is looking at a new vehicle. However, before you explode into a Lambo lovefest, Winkelmann did tell the Italian media that the fourth model hasn’t received the green light yet.
Thoughts On The Lamborghini Urus Facelift
The facelift of the Urus is expected to bring in a few design details while making the biggest Lambo bull even more powerful. However, it is the not so near future of the Urus that has us salivating. While going hybrid is expected to add weight, the added power sure would be a welcome boost. Add in the news that there may be a fourth raging bull making its way onto the streets and the future looks rather bullish for Lamborghini.
