It’s been rumoured for a while now that BMW has decided to go the split headlight route for its flagship ’7 models, the X7 LCI, 7 Series LCI and upcoming i7.
A common trend we’re seeing more and more of, it might not come as a surprise in 5 years’ time when everything from a Hyundai Creta to the Rolls-Royce Spectre has a ‘splitty’ design upfront in one form or antoher.
Perhaps the first luxury manufacturer to show their variation on the split headlight theme, BMW may have cottoned on to something here, their distinctive face highlighting their flagship models from the rest of their range.

We first saw this with the introduction of the X7, as well as the facelifted (LCI in BMW-speak) G11 7 Series, both sporting rather large kidney grilles. Controversial perhaps, but there’s no denying that both of these models have presents. You’ll be hard pressed to mistake either of them for something else in the rear-view mirror.
The X7 LCI is on the way and while we have seen camouflaged prototypes for about 18 months now, it’s anybody’s guess as to how the split headlight design will translate onto the rest of the large BMW.

An image appears to have been leaked, posted by Wilco Blok on Instagram with no context aside from “BMW X7 facelift LEAKED!”. The image depicts an X7 with a split headlight design, perched on a plinth in a picturesque region – much like what we’re used to from BMW’s press images and brochure photography.
It’s likely that we will see the X7 LCI in the coming weeks – all will be confirmed then.
