The third ‘all-electric’ and all digital Big Cat debuts in Sony’s blockbuster new release
Yeah, of course it’d be inspired by the D-Type. If you had one of the coolest racing cars locked away in your heritage cupboard, you’d wheel it out in every possible scenario. This is the third digital Jaguar cooked up for Gran Turismo, and it is the ‘Roadster’.
It’s obviously very Not Real, but judging by the visuals on GT7, it perhaps needs repeating. Jaguar tells us the Roadster is designed to provide gamers with “the pure, visceral driving experience of an open-cockpit Jaguar” powered by three electric motors. Fake electric motors, but three of them nonetheless.
In-game, that’s over 1,000bhp and 885lb ft of torque to play with, and we suspect such power will have you pushing that ‘X’ button straight through the controller. It’ll accelerate from 0-62mph in less than two seconds and top out at over 200mph. In game.

There’s 50:50 weight distribution, “outstanding” driving dynamics, a “stiff” monocoque body and is sure to give GT7 gamers some eye-opening moments. Not least because of those looks. Superb as a piece of rendering, you’ll agree. The D-Type inspiration comes via that rear fin, here designed using CFD and featuring a subtle Union Jack etched into it.
Gran Turismo boss and creator Kazunori Yamauchi, said: “It was a great experience to work with the design team at Jaguar. We look forward to drivers getting behind the virtual wheel in the new game. All three cars lend themselves perfectly to the exciting new user experience that GT7 will offer.”
